Axe just slows down ridill anyway. Balanced attack/def/str/vit/hp gear in pvp is alot better than utsu vs most jobs too. You can take hits like pld and still hit for full dmg on most jobs (even with defender up in most cases).

Aggressor + focus + ridill owns NIN and THF badly heh - you hit them for 80-100 they hit you for less than 20. Sidewinder does like 300 with defender up (you can get 1700 hp easily as hume war/mnk) plus you can chakra for 240ish if you have good vit.

Counter is still pretty hot from subjob too, and dodge is decent for evading ranged attacks from people with low skill caps.

The only real melee job that gives trouble is a well equipped mnk/war with counterstance heh.


NIN subjob is better vs mages but whatever haha.

blm/rdm with full dmg-% gear is nice, can make gimpy thieves and other melees hit for 0-10 with phalanx, and even mnks can hit for 30 or less, but yea, blm still sucks cause you run out of mp fast.

drk/nin is really good, in 60 cap its probably the highest damaging melee available. hit for 60-100 per axe, 600-800 rampage normal, 1200-1500 with souleater lol

I agree with Eternus that with capped ws brd isn't all that bad.

IMO Brd is still useful in uncapped even w/o using lullaby (esp in big matches) having Fowl Audube (Resist sleep song) allow ur team to resist almost 50%+ sleep from blm. Ballad is nice for the mages, but most useful of all is Mazurka after gaining gate breach for the whole team.

Also note that even though lullaby might not sleep ur opponent horde lullaby will strip all the nin and /nin or their shadow.

In a 1 vs 1 fight, if u're not a taru.. brd w/ damage reduction and high defense gear is actually pretty hard to kill. Using a staff they can use spirit taker to replenish their MP. With double Minne up their defense is comparable to a pld. 350ish def.

But like all fights, brds will take at least 20min to kill anything. while staff deals very little damage Foe Requiem VI deals about 6-7 damage + Dia 2 which is 2-3 damage gives u rought 8-10 damage / tick.

I have had many time where after i was defeated, my opponent fell down beside me shortly due to DoTs lol.
