Ike said it best. GMs aren't here to serve as parents, mentors, or magical entities that make the "bad things" go away. GMs aren't responsible for doing anything if you fall for a scam or a bad trade. Why? Because stealing isn't a violation of the Terms of Services (ToS). Griefing, however, is slightly different. But overall if you get ripped off, your also partly responsible for being thick enough to give materials to someone you don't know or trust.

Yea but you know I think they should police....seriously how hard is it and it would make the game a hell of a lot more trustworthy and enjoyable for us. If people are pulling this shit in a game, how long will it be before they figure out they can dick someone over and not be punished ofr it in real life.....however if I give someone an item in real life with a promise I will get something back, and I get screwed then that person appears on milkboxes, you can't do that to ppl in this game and the unfairness of it sux

I like GMs. They get me unstuck from under the Kazham rafters. I asked them why I always do that. He told me becuase I have a shitty comp and to add memory to my comp (not in those words of course he was all Role-Player style for some odd reason).

Whether GMs are JP biased or not: Don't care.

Should GMs be police: Don't care.

Would I mount a llama for a GM for 35 gil: yes. (I'm poor.)

Keeping me out of the rafters and the ocean water in kazham: Yay!

This guy is just really a sad sucker, he can't accept the fact that it was his own fault for being in a hurry and giving the claw to the first random bonecrafter he sees. He wasn't stolen from, he gave the claw at his own will. What is really funny is he feels so special that he is even starting a GM petition now:
http://as.hadesffxi.com/viewtopic.php?p=4214
Sad part is, even if he gets a million people to sign, GMs still won't do jack shit because the bonecrafter didn't act against the ToS. Best a GM can do in this case is tell the person that he feels for his loss, if he were to banish the bonecrafter he would get fired.

i agree w/ pirato
the person GAVE him/her the materials, if i give my friend my sword can i call the GM on him for stealing if he doesnt give it back? no because i let him have it, the same would apply for this, she/he let him/her have the materials
thats why if i was ever doing something w/ a stranger i would ask for a deposit of some sort w/ something of equal value

i find it amusing that people actually say "its their fault for trading the claw". when in all actuality its the crafters fault for taking an item that he agreed to craft for the person. i mean if the crafter wanted money for +1 he should have said something, or better yet either bought another claw to make a reg harness or reimburse the cost of the claw. because he wouldnt have crafted a +1 with out the person giving him materials.... its not like bonecrafters go buying Vclaws to randomly craft them. if any real life business were to do this, you can bet the company crafting would get in trouble.

i think GMs should do more in the community. run events, xp jobs on their gm accounts, and do everything that a normal player does.

I think if GMs are going to leave it up to the player(s) to resolve their own issues.. and from what we all know, don't take corrective action, or else, it's just a warning. Then they should take the same attitude's towards MPK, that way the player who got ripped off can feel some form of justice. Imagine that Conversation:

noobfan1: OMGZ! s0m4 4ssh0l3 just MPKED me 5 times in a row!
[GM]Jimbean: I'm sorry, but it's because you stole their SH+1, is there anything else i can help you with today?
noobfan1: I demand something be done now!!!!!
[GM]Jimbean: I assure, we are looking into it, and corrective action will be taken, however i cannot release the info of what and/or when this action will happen.
noobfan1: this is bullsh*t!
[GM]Jimbean: thank you for contacting the helpdesk, i hope the rest of your gameplay is full of fun and happiness. goodbye

I don't fault the GM for this. The logistical issues with "giving back" or "reimbursing" an item like SH+1 are complex, and would probably be exploited/screw the economy over in the end. Should the crafter be banned? Maybe. But in terms of modern legality, if someone freely gives an item away of their own accord, the other person has no responsibility to give it back. NAs bitch about gilselling and HNM monopolization and inflation every nine seconds, and it pisses me off. Yeah, it sucks. No, it will never go away, it's an inherent part of any online, fictional economy. PLAY THE GAME. It's supposed to be FUN, not an exercise on how to best manipulate the socioeconomic structure wasting your life trying to get another VIT +2. (end rant)

haha ya know i dont feel like starting a huge debate. if you cant see the detriment any of those has on the gameplay and community then me saying something wont make people see it any better.

He gave the claw in turn for a service. When I go out to eat and give someone money I expect food to come back to me. I willingly gave that money over to them and now expect something to be returned to me. Lets say this was real life- This person would have found a claw, he would have then looked up the regional crafters/tradesmen that could preform what he wanted done to the claw. Next he would pay them the required amount and give them the item with which they needed to preform the service to. Now if they somehow turned the item into something better then what was expected two things would happen: they would ask for more money (not gonna happen since it already took place) or offer to sell the item and return in full the amount of value plus the paid amount to the owner.

In this way the owner of the claw could then purchase a new one.

Its not a GMs job to take sides. Period. They have to act impartial or they get fired irl. Although I do with they would hang around towns sometimes. Just sit and chill, maybe talk with people sometime, so that so many people wouldn't think they're just useless ghosts.

yes but in real life lani if someone were to not give something back im sure you'd kick their ass, and pls remember this is a game its not quite fair to compare it to real life unless we're in the middle ages w/ flying ships and giant chickens

(oh and the JP may sell the gil but im sure a majority of the ppl buying it are NA {not saying that anyone here buys gil [but if you do you can go to hell]})

I wouldnt kick their ass. I would find someone who could get me back my item such as a police officer. You dont take the law in your own hands.
