I defitnely felt bard was easy street for leveling. I hardly spent any money. never farmed, and got parties without trying.

32-37 kinda sucked for me though. Fucking japanese whore not wanting to party with me.

The speed of a bard leveling doesn't necessarily come from tons of invites, it comes from always getting great exp/hr. In addition as Vurin said, it is extremely inexpensive, so no farming is required at all. You will get more than enough gil just from crystals from exping. A bard's only big expense is Erase, but it's worth every penny.

I argued this point before i actually prefer RDM more on days where i feel "lazy" and don't want to position. Days I am motivated to xp whore i try and get a bard . Brd and Rdm or similiar but bard has melee songs and RDM has gravity. They each serve a purpose but they are kinda different if you think about it deeper. Also Brd isn't a great backup healer compared to RDM since they lack the MP I think its where you leveling for what you need...
i think though after 60 the top 5 jobs in order are BRD > RDM > BLM > RNG > WHM

As a PLD tank, I perfer a RDM when fighting mobs with AOEs. I can stand far away from mages to keep them from getting hit. When BRD is the PT, I have to stand near mages for Ballad, and if the AoE is too powerful, I sometimes dont get Ballad at all. Thats y I perfer a RDM over BRD when I tank strong AoE mobs like weapons in sky. But Shil is right, u get a NIN, BRD, and RDM together and EXP should be golden.

actually at 68 i have 269mp, its not bad. and when i get 73 i get zenith slacks and i'll be around 330mp. i could easily switch to mp gear and have 400.

I was an elvan bard so my mp sat at aroudn 200-250 the entire time from like lvl 40-75, but if you're a proactive bard you'll constantly be using that Mp so its not as bad as it seems.

I might say a bard is a bad back up healer, but if you consider their healing kinda of extra, and as additional support not unlike a paladins heals, you'll see they contribute a fair bit.

In the fastest xpign groups most mages only use roughly the same amoutn of xp as they're regening. A bard really isn't any different. Not makign an arguement that they heal anywhere as much or as well as a rdm /whm but its not like its alwya sno contest either.

If you have a whm in the pt a brd is just fine for back up healing. I mean there shouldnt be too many moments where they have to heal at all. Just cover Erase at some points and status ailments.

Hey Vurin^^ Off topic but you gave me the best EXP PT I ever had (at that time) when my PLD was only like 32~33. You were levelling ur NIN in the Jungles and u invited me to be backup healer >< I was like wtf but I tried it out and it was awesome. That PT is second on the best EXP PT ever now... I wish I took some SS of that PT, think there was a lot of CKD in it. Way back in like June/July 2004 iirc. But anyways.

I wouldnt say BRD is a bad back up healer, but with a RDM having convert... kinda blows BRD out of the water when it comes to back up healing.

Well from my personal experience 1-50 lvling melee( I only lvl melee) is a joke, its not hard to get any melee jobs to 50 in short of 2 weeks, my drg hit 50 in a week and a half and my war hit 30 in a day and a half, its all up to the parties you accept or make. Post 50 (considering my highest job is a 62 war I cant say much) is pretty much left up to the impression you make on the parties you get, unless you have lots of friends.

I get party invites with my war without seeking from people I have partied with previously because well, they all consider me the top melee damage dealer of the lvl range.

but I can say this, all the parties I join or make, Bard is the first class I look for. Bard + good melee DD's = smokin xp ( 6-12k an hour).

FFXI has too much bullshit for me to ever play it again I think. From farming, to the too tight LFG limitations, to gil sellers, to subjobs, to skill up aprties, to 3 hour NM cmap fests.

Looking back the only thing I really liked about FFXI were the people I played with.

Rdm was pretty fast but at 70+ a Brd is way more wanted that you are. Lvling my whm sub has been super easy though...

You forgot the fact SE is racist.

I found whm to be pretty fast but not as fast as rdm or brd. Those would have to be the fastest ones and it all boils down to what a party wants.
