since the update i have been trying to skill up my fishing on my main char. My fishing on main char is 15. I am using a lu shang's rod. I have been fishing nonstop for the last 2 days and have only gotten .6 points in skill up. I have been zoning every like 20-30 minutes and still nothing. I'm trying to level with tri carp and gold carp and i can seem to catch them fine but i dont get any skill up.. is the update just totally fucked up or am i retarded and doing something wrong?? someone said something about a guide that shows you how to take fishing easy from 1-100 with a lu shang... anyone have any thoughts on where i could find one or anyone have any suggestions ??

i am having same problem with my lu shang...im getting no skillups and im fishing for hours. i might try switching to carbon or composite for better skillups. however, even before the updates, i could hardly ever get skillups with lu shang. its very stingy.

From what I have read/heard skill ups are based on two things now, type of fish you catch and the rod you use to catch them with and as a general rule crappy rod = greater exp

Of course a crappy rod will also break alot more losing both fish, bait, and skillup if you would have gotten any for it.

So the trick is to find the worst rod that will catch your fish with out breaking

basically lu shangs has become more for high lvl fishing and money making fishing from all the info I've been able to gather

I have gone 88-89 with lu shang in little under 6 hours.

Aside from the fact you have no proof to back any of that up; that "sentence" completely contradicts itself. Let's take a look: "...you were trying to get a bot to work but couldn't..."

That would lead one to the conclusion that because he couldn't get the 'bot' to work that he, in fact, never fish botted. Either way, I find your "calling out" of Pirato revoltng...

And for the record, I was in the same LS as Pirato while he was skilling up forever and he was constantly bitching about how slow skillups were. that's one hell of a bot if you ask me..

Ponuh, I challenge you and anyone else who thinks I cheat to bust me while I'm botting. If you manage to poke me around while I'm fishing without me showing any signs of life, and post a screenshot of the chatlog here, I will reward you 2 million gil.

lol, that's old, july 12. I didnt even remember that. Now I do though, and I never did get one to work so I gave up and have alwyas fished the honest way.
I assure you I don't bot and never have, you can ask anyone on my ls, they all have to put up with bitching on how slow it skills up, like Matti mentioned. I'm always there when i'm fishing, everyone who knows me knows that.
I would like to apologize for freaking out against you, and would appreciate if you edit your first post about busting me because there's nothing you can bust me for.

Read the psot again again. I said "You tried to get a fishbot to work but couldn't" so in that regards the first post is perfectly fine.

quick rehash for those who missed it...from what I have heard you can not effectively skill up at lower lvls with a lu shangs. In order for skill ups you need to A) catch a fish slightly aobve your current fishing lvl, and B) be using a rod that is roughly the equivalent for that fish.

At lvl 15 I know of two possiblities, the ever acursed copper frogs, or the slightly less known and (in my opinion much better) Cheval salmon and Shining trout in East ronfanue. Try a glass fiber rod and a fly lure.

Also there is some chance of the rod breaking on there (esspecially if you catch some of the rarer fish there by accident) so having alchemy to the lvl to fix the rod is helpful...I think around 20 or so should do it reasonably well. Otherwise you can just run into sandy and try to get a new rod there (windy mule/mail or just check AH in sandy, though usually a bit more expensive that way)

Oh yeah and before I forget ...the salmon and such should get you up to lvl 18 or so pretty quickly (well...quickly for fishing anyway)

Some useful hints, I'm quite sure that these still apply after the february revamp:
Snapping your line and especially breaking our rod gives you a higher chance of skilling up, which is one of the reasons why using lulu for skill up isn't the best choice. If you are willing to lay down the money for it, you can powerlevel your fishing skill using this method.
To give you an example, I got 30-40 in under 10 hours on the ferry, breaking willow rods. I have broken roughly 500 (!) willow rods doing this, but it was so fast it was worth the few 100K's I put in this.
Lu Shang is, even more so since the february revamp, a money making tool, not a skill up tool.
