omg spork i just noticed your fishing skill... how long did that take you? >.< im at 44 and it has taken a month or so, spent the last week fishing moat carp for my shang rod. Shang rod seems like it will take another month by itself >.< maybe ill just sell all of my equipment and buy carp from the AH

No idea how long it took, i've been fishing on and off since I got the game.

At L61 BLM I got sick of the XP grind and went hardcore fisher, for like 2-3 months I did nothing but fish. Got Lu Shang's rod (probably first NA on server), got woodworking high enough to repair it, 76 fishing, and a shitload of gil.

I haven't fished in along time tho, couple weeks ago I sold my Shang's for 3.5 mill, sick of it

another question, or maybe a few. 1. what skill level did you start fishing for your shang rod? 2. Where did you fish up your moat carp? 3. What rod/lure(s) did you use? 4. How long did it take?

I have read on boards that it is much faster to use rogue/robber rig to fish up carp but i've tried it my self and caught close to nothing in several places. Any info on your personal experience would be appreciated

I used to be just a small forum where a few of us NA players with Lu Shang's came to chat, now it's grown into a monster, i'm like user 21 of 577. lol

To answer your question, I started the quest at L38ish fishing. By the time i caught 10,000 moat carp i was at L50 fishing, gained skill just from a few other fish that bite while fishing moats.

I fished in 2 places.

Rabao : Carbon + Insect Paste
Windurst : Composite + Insect Paste

Rabao was the best, but it had its off days, so I went to Windurst then. I was just in Rabao yesterday while lvling sub-job though, millions of fishers, so dont' know how good it is now.
