I just found out tonight, IGE is actually mysupersales.com. Yantis was the big guy on selling EQ stuff. I guess we can't call IGE farmer anymore since what he really does is buy low and sell high.

That still doesn't make either of them morally (or legally) any better than they were already. :P

I'm still surprised they [SE] dont do anything about gil/account buying/selling. As far as I know, they stopped eBay from doing it, and then.... nothing?

And gil farmers (I saw a bunch of these at the AH the other day, like 3-4 DRGs all in the same armor with names like Jingjing, none of them had an LS pearl on though) well... I don't see SE doing much about those while they get their 13$/month out of them, lol. :?

Not 100% correct.

IGE is not mysupersales.com

mysupersales.com = IGE.

IGE bought out Yantis awhile ago for a shitload of cash and a position in IGE.

Quote:
Boca Raton, FL – January 22nd, 2004 – Internet Gaming Entertainment, Ltd. (“IGE”) (http://www.ige.com), the worldwide leader in the market for buying and selling virtual property used in multiplayer online games, announced today that it has agreed to acquire substantially all of the assets of Yantis Enterprises, Inc. (http://www.mysupersales.com).
The deal involves both cash and equity in IGE’s parent company, IGE U.S. LLC (“IGE U.S.”), headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida, according to Randy Maslow, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of IGE U.S.
Massively multiplayer online role-playing games (“MMORPGs”) like EverQuest and Ultima Online are filled with virtual property — things like magic weapons, houses, in-game currency, and characters that are bought and sold on auction exchanges, with thousands of dollars trading hands every day. The total trade volume for virtual property is estimated by Professor Edward Castronova, professor of economics at Cal-State Fullerton, to exceed $400m annually, with an undetermined portion of that amount annually captured in real-world dollars by dealers in virtual currency and goods.

With more than 80 employees and thousands of suppliers, IGE is the largest provider in the world of virtual currency exchange and game-enhancement services to players of MMORPGs. The company provides 24x7x365 customer service and tech support from its state of the art operations center in Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong.

“Jonathan Yantis is an entrepreneur who blazed the trail in creating a market for the exchange of virtual currency and property,” said Brock Pierce, CEO of IGE U.S. “This acquisition is a big step for both us and the virtual currency exchange market as a whole, and solidifies our position as the largest player in this market by far.”

Mr. Yantis will be joining IGE U.S. as Chief Operating Officer and a member of the company’s Board of Managers. The other members of the Board include Mr. Pierce, Mr. Maslow and Alan Debonneville, President of the IGE subsidiary in Hong Kong.

“This is a marriage of the two pioneers in this industry,” said Jonathan Yantis. “I’m excited to be joining IGE and look forward to our future successes together.”

What pisses me off the most is I'm not exactaly sure who I should be mad at.

The Gil Farmers? : Most of these folks are Chinese. People have talked to them, they hate their job, they do not enjoy playing the game, they understand that everyone hates them, but their options are limited, they need a job to feed the family.

People that employ the Gil Farmers? (IGE,etc) : Yeah, I hate these guys. But then again you gotta give them props for building a $400+ million /yr business out of it. lol

SE For not doing more to rid the game of Gil Sellers? : I understand their resources are limited and that it's difficult to track down gill seller accounts with 100% certainty, but come on, they could atleast make it look like they are TRYING to do SOMETHING about it.

People that buy the gil : These are the #1 people I hate. If people didn't buy gil, then people wouldn't farm and sell it. Play the goddamn game and earn your gil, dont buy it off the net.

And for me, the gil BUYERS are the only people I have syphathy for.

Most of them work full-time jobs with families and if they admit they do it get harassed by asshole HS students because these kids would reccomend spending hours a day farming during prime time(which you can't do effectively) and never getting to play the game.

Now, it's case by case for me. A college guy who plays all day and still buys gil is a bad thing to me. If you only get a few hours every day, and you have to split that with FFXI and your family, go ahead.

Gil farming groups i know of:

Kenbaby and Fireprince
Dar, Sotart, and Lexy
Angelking and Kiege
Bfat, Cocoice, and Starprincess
Jingjing and Yangyang

I had a nice little conversation with Kenbaby when i was screwing around in Zi'tah waiting for my Pt. First he asked me if i was JP or NA. Then he tried to invite me when i put my party flag up after the PT disbanded accidentally. I sent him a tell "I'm not letting you steal my items" he sent me back a tell with "^^." I don't understand why they can't just craft or something. That would actually help our games economy to have alot of high lvl crafters.

There will be no gil farmers or IGE or Yantis if there's no one buys the gil. So at the end, it's really supply vs. demand.

I can understand the reason for people wanting to buy gil since they have no time to play the way like some of us do/did. However, that doesn't mean they are innocent or right on this whole playerauctions/ebay thing. Btw, thanks for the info spork, I didn't even know IGE bought out Yantis. That makes sense now I guess. I only thought IGE is Yantis since their listings are identical.

It's a double edge sword. If people are taking the "easy way out" and just buying gil for the sake of buying gil then I don't like that. At the same time there are those that would farm but the places they would farm are camped 24/7 so they lose hope and just buy the gil. That I can understand.

Gil sellers must understand economics better than we'd like to think because by totally taking over easily farmable areas like Zitah, Delkfutt's and Ordelle's Stroper Chymes they corner the market. I can't really say the same about the Zitah idiots though, in their haste to make gil they have brought the price for cuttings from 64k to 48k in a matter of weeks. Saying that they need to do this to make money IRL just irritates me. If you need IRL money quit paying $13 a month get out and find a job IRL!

In the end its a combination of the causes that is the reason it goes on still. Square could put and end to it by making an example out of someone. They just need to pop into Rabao one day on each server and suspend or ban every active fisherman that doesn't answer a tell.

i hate those guys^^ lol. as for the gil farming etc. SE isnt ever going to do anything unless it completely ruins the game and people start leaving, as long as they're still gettin that 13$+ a month from everyone SE doesnt really care. :x

and actually, suspending all fish botters for like 3 days would solve A TON of fishing problems, although it would also change the economy quite a bit over the long haul. Chances are that it would only lower prices though, which im sure 99% of you would be happy, including me.

also, i agree that buying gil is a double edged sword. I think that for people who play this game as a hobby and really want to have fun, buying gil really isn't so bad. It is illegal, yes, but it really isn't that wrong imo. People who have no time to play this game, and don't want to spend countless hours and nights farming can buy their gil and use that time for enjoyment. Those who sell gil, though, im not really as happy with. Most of the gil sellers, camp monsters such as stroper and steal them from people who are willing to camp numerous hours for chances at a decent amount of gil. Maybe if all gil sellers were fish botters, and didn't steal from others trying to get the gil, i would be happy
