Ok, I've decided to go warrior all the way. Here is my plan so tell me what you guys think.

WAR/MNK (mostly tank) 1-50
WAR/NIN (DD) and WAR/MNK (tank) 50-60
WAR/SAM 60-74 (mostly DD)
WAR/NIN 74-75

Now when I played DRG I noticed that I could tank pretty effectively up until the CN, which was about lvl 33ish. As I read more about warrior, it looks to be kind of the same deal, but my ability to tank extends until about lvl 60 or so. After that the mobs just hit too hard, and it's difficult to keep hate unless you where the full AF suit, but then you loose out on better pieces of armor. I know some of you will say, but what about WAR/THF! I have no interest in lvling thf (i really hate that job, i have alot of respect for thfs but i never want to be one). So what do you think? Any suggestions?

When I leveled my Warrior ( got to a mere 48) the biggest Hurdle was all the Sub Jobs to level. Ninja to 37 is a joke its so easy. but Sam, Thf, and/or Monk past like 18 or so really starts to suck.

I started to level WAR for a while (got it to 50.) Really you could ask just about any DD class and they can tell you what to exect as you progress in level. I will agree the most difficult thing about leveling WAR is maintaining your subjobs for the sake of versatility in an XP pt.

ok, being a WAR72 myself i'll give you some tips ^^.

WAR/NIN: basically a good sub from lvl's 1-75. You'll be using Dual Wield Axe most of the time which will make you a great damage dealer, but you can also use Sword as it is rated B for WAR. The reason you might you sword is because if you happen to get a Joyeuse or a Ridill, you'll be godly in the TP and DAmage department, but mind you, they are very difficult to acquire. Also Make sure you have plenty of gil to buy the utsusemi - ni/ichi spells, and if not, go do the quest/bcnm. Personally i find that the only ninjutsu i use are the utsusemi, so if you are short on cash i guess you can gimp on the other offensive spells, but although they are not used when you have war main, please take into consideration, they will be used when you lvl your nin as they help keep hate.
The job of a WAR/NIN for me was mostly damage dealing. I was rarely the tank, but having utsusemi-ichi, when i do get hate, it allows me to get hit 3 times without damage which is great for the mages, as its saves them healing me 250-300 HP. Also make sure you have a boomerang or some sort of ranged weapon, as you will also be the main puller if your party has no thfs or rangers.
Damage wise i say that i output about the same if not more damage then a DRK at higher lvls, mainly due to my berserk and Aggressor (adds about +10 ACC i think), allowing me to hit for more and land more hits.

WAR/MNK: I can personally say that this is a viable combo, as i have taken my war with that sub to about lvl 60. You get a boost in HP/VIT. Also if you plan on being the main tank, mnk sub is by far the easiest to hold hate compared to other subs. Provoke and Boost every 30 secs will basically keep the hate most of the time (eg. at one time i even kept hate after a SC and ancient magic MB).

WAR/THF: This combo is also a very good option. Compared to the nin combo where you output your own hate which often makes the mob attack you, with THF sub this shouldn't happen as you are shouldering most of your hate to the tanks. You will also output a hell of alot of damage with your SATA Steel Cyclone/Raging Rush.

WAR/SAM: This is a good sub too, but you will find that not many high lvl WAR 60+ use this sub, mainly because the other subs are more useful. Sure you can dish out about 2 WS's in a battle, but whats the point when you always get hate, which makes it tougher for your group to chain as you'll be draining the mages MP. What you need to keep in mind is that the party fundamentals are to not DD like crazy (RNG's would understand this), but instead to support your party. Although with SAM sub, you can always dish out a Debuff WS (full break, armor break) at the start of the battle which should only do about 100-200 Damage, and do another ws for SC later on.
Although this might not be relevant, i would also like to add that before the TP nerf (multy hit ws, and also the Meditate nerf (not sure if you guys remember that)), SAM sub was the most powerful sub for WAR because it allowed us to do massive damage. That was the main reason you see alot of JP WARS subbing SAM.

Weapon Selection: Although most people would say that with WAR you should lvl all the weapons that are rated B to its cap, i personally have just lvled Axe and Great Axe to its cap. Most low lvl WARS only lvl 1 or the other which is a mistake (i did this myself ><), becuase once you decide to lvl a weapon when you are higher lvl from skill 0, it is incredibly tough and arduous. The reason why you should lvl AXE/GA is because with AXE it will allow you to participate in Light SC's, whereas GA will lets you do Dark SC's. But i guess if you do choose to lvl one weapon until lvl 50/60's and then lvl the other, make sure you lvl GA first as that weapon takes 2-3 times longer to cap then Axe. Nothing will piss you off more then having to spend 1-3 weeks trying to cap a weapon which could have easily been avoided.

Equipment: From lvl 1-30's i found that i was tanking and DD half the time in parties, so i recommend concentrating on high DEF/VIT equipment until lvl 30+. From lvl 30's-75 you should concentrate on DD equipment, but make sure you have your AF body armor with you, just incase you are required to tank.

Side note: Also for lower lvls, don't get discouraged when people say that WAR is not a good DD job and that you should go advance job. Having an advance job as main, doesn't mean it is better then the starting jobs. Just keep at it and do a good job in your job, and people will respect you. Personally i'd say at high lvls, WAR main job is one of the most powerful if not the most powerful mellee job in the game (excluding RNg's of course :P) and i'm sure alot of you guys would agree with that if you have partied with a good war.

Anyway i hope that info helps you, and i wish you the best of luck in your quest to be a lvl 75 WAR. ^^

Thanks for the advice Lplau. I am thinking I will probably be able to tank into lvl 50-60 because I'm a galka, but I could see how some other races would have problems into the mid-lvls. I will prbably lvl axe, great axe, and sword, because there are some nice swords for dual wield, and I've heard that Spirits Within is a good WS to have at endgame (if I ever make it that far). I've got a long road ahead of me, lol, but I am going to take my time and no get burned out like I did in my previous FFXI life.
