i'm 156 staff now, but kuftal tunnel crabs and lizards give me about 2.0 points per hour which is just too slow. anyone know a better spot?

IIRC Kuftal is good till around 180~200 (altho goes really slow at 190+.

In general skilling up staff is just a bitch past 150..... i goes insanely slow.

Usually by 185-190, I went to steelshells, or crap like camping for the overlord, or doing water pots.

But... its been a while for me.... I might've well have said just go fight some Boars by westfall.... 8)

I found the basement of Garlaige ideal up until about 180 or so, then I went to Kuftal til about 190, and moved to Boyahda with Robbers and Steelsheels til 230. Then I capped it in exp PTs :P

DRK and PLD are the easiest to level staff skill with. Because of their high hitpoints and Support magic they can take a beating with little or no resting in between fighting. Also, monsters go do faster. Using a low attack staff has no impact on the amount of skill you recieve ( it's based entirely on the level of the monster vs. the level of your skill. Which is why you don't recieve Skill points after so long. ). I find using an Earth Staff is the best staff to use for skill up.. Fire staff is also good ( if you want a cheaper alternative ). It all depends on whether you are going to tank ( if in a party ), stand back and beat it's head in or whether you're just doing solo stuff.

My staff skill, before I quit was around 156. I wanted Spirit taker more than anything but oh well.. lol.

I think Kuftal tunnel is the best.. I got 6 points in a little over a hour which isn't >so< bad. It gets easier as you get more skill points because you can hit more often.

It also helps to get as much accuracy as possible so you can hit more.

I use 8-sided pole and life belt when I try for skillups. I would buy some sniper rings too, but im too poor for it. I can hit anything tough or weaker consistently, but skillups are still very rare for me. Only 4 more lvls til cap though :)

I think it just "feels" slow because there's really no good staff skills out there.. However spirit taker is really nice.. I saw a Lv. 75 Japanese SMN in full relic armor use it and I was stunned. Was really cool.

kuftal is good, i solod club till like 210 there. staff i wouldnt try to go past 200 whisp. i capped staff on whm and yeah it was a bitch, your gonna go from 2 levels an hour to about 2 levels a skill up pt when you get a little higher. try to get near 200 on robber crabs then your best bet is steel shell, pld can get staff past 230 on them but for whm i doubt it. gonna have to move to something Tough+ to get those last few levels and cap it at 230, i got it off pots in sky. and yeah any acc gear gear is nice, i use 8 sided pole+1 and a lifebelt and i happened to win a pair of spectacles off a bc so i had been using them too before i sold them off. imo you can solo stuff better with staff and spirit taker than you can with hexa, just go slow and steady and keep your mp pool together. im talking like EP+ though, staff skill caps at 230 which isnt high enough for alot of mobs to hit reliably. its nice too to be able to farm stuff with club and just hexa and when your mp starts to get low just switch to staff and start spirit taker till you get your mp pool back up and go back to club.

Robber crabs in the tree will take you to 205 atleast (but after 190 it's rather slow). I leveled my sword, dagger and staff from 150's to 200 on those robber crabs. Soloing for skill ups is just slow as you spend more time healing then swinging.

Don't forget about jack-o-lanterns if you're whiffing alot ( +10 evasion, +10 accuracy and a cool -10 chr, lasts 60 minutes ). I don't remember those crabs hitting for a lot so I never bothered with defense boost foods.
