I don't know if this is obvious or not or if it's been confirmed but doesn't it seem like the 3 main nations of FFXI, Windurst, San'doria and Bastok all have a parallel to real nations/cultures?

Windurst seems very rural and traditional, like an Asian culture (japan?)
San'Doria seems very European with its castles and French names :D
Bastok seems very industrial and young, like the United States, as well as democratic.

Just my thoughts. Most of you have probably thought this before but I'm a retard so I decided to post it here. Cheers

i jes like windurst because its made of trees, and to me it seems like SE took the most time on windurst and took more time to develop their orgins.

Actually, Bastok seems to be industrial Germany way back in the day when they were edifying their empire under Otto von Bismarck. Notice how a lot of Bastoker NPC's have Germanic names and the territories around Bastok (Zulkheim, Gustaberg, Konschtat, Derfland, etc.) are obviously Deutsch? Your depiction of it as the US is pretty accurate too, however I think Germany fits the role a bit better.

I suppose, I was just feeding off the description of Bastok being a fledgling nation, though I suppose Industrial Germany was fairly new as well.

I think when SE made windrust they went "Hey remember when you were a kid in an amusement park and your parents left you? Remember how lost you were? Yeah lets make that feeling a town.!"
