Post subject:  Advice switching FFXI from PS2-->PC

FFXI looks 1000x better on pc, and I'm considering making the switch. My only problem is I will have to learn how to play all over again. I've grown accustomed to the PS2 controller and hitting my macros from the R2 and L2 buttons. Doing it all on keyboard will mess me up 100%.

Has anybody here switched from PS2 to PC? Are there any controllers you would recommend for the PC that function like the PS2 Controller? Or just any advice in general? I haven't done any research on this...I'm just bored at work thinking about it.

i started on the pc and switched to ps2 and now im back on the pc... the controller fucked everything up... i cant play w/o one. same as you, the macros were jes too hard.. i went to target and they had 2 different kind. one was really expencive and had like 50+ buttons on it, and the other one was 20 bucks. and it was identical to the ps2 one, jes blue... i bought the cheap one and it works jes as good.

My advice if you want to play on PC and you've become accustomed to using a Dualshock Controller...

Don't buy another controller!

Stick with the PS2 Dualshock pad, not only is it probably the best gamepad ever invented (there sure as hell isn't any PC pads that match it) but you can actually hook PS2 pads up to a PC.

Have a look around for a little cheap gadget called a PS2 to USB adapter. If you know any import places nearby then they are great places to start looking. You generally won't find these things at Gamestop or EB or whatever.

They do exactly what they say they do, they let you plug PS2 gamepads into a PC and they function just like any 4-axis (2 analog stick) 16 button (X [] /\ O + L1 R1 L2 R2 L3 R3 + Start + Select + Digital Up Down Left Right = 16 buttons) gamepad without any additional stuff.

Get a decent one and it'll even support the force feedback (rumble) on the pad (which FFXI PC version can use if you have it).

It can be a real pain to find one in your area but these things blow buying new pads out of the water if you already have a Dualshock pad or two, since you just plug em into the end of the device, don't need to buy more pads.

for controller: you can buy a USB <> PS2 converter (should be less than $30), that will allow you to use the same PS2 controller to play the game

as far as marco: you will probably have to retype them again. PC <> PC you can just copy the text file from your profile since in PC version macro are all txt files.

I'd powerglove slap you.

The controller is probably the reason why some people take 400000 years to reply. I'll stick with 8 4 6 2 prease

If you live in the U.S., go to Radioshack and get the PS2 to PC converter. Costs 9.99.
