For the benefit of people intending to buy an XBox360 and purchase FFXI for it, IGN made a huge 6 page overview article on the game to demonstrate "What we already know"...

This was worse than Bradygames, here's some quotes...

Quote:
For one, you need to feed your chocobo to keep it happy and healthy.

They also gain new special attacks and abilities at certain levels, which can be used once every two game hours.

[On Red Mages] and they're a little slower to cast than specialist mages.

the Beastmaster adopts certain monsters, training them to help out in battle.

[Paladins] have one special skill so far

Shadowbind: If this shot lands successfully, the target is afflicted with the Paralysis status ailment. Come on, 'Bind' is right in the name!

A character switching to a new job retains the special skills developed in their progression through the previous job

The three primary player races...

Mog Houses contain traders and shops that sell useful items

Many more, and many things which are not necessarily people, are not your friends.

Fast characters can attack more frequently, of course, so it behooves players to train their agility stats.

Of course, ranged attacks won't work when melee combat is engaged, so it's important to keep one's distance and attack quickly, before an enemy can close in.

More powerful spells demand a longer setup time, although that can be reduced by improving the appropriate magic skill.

Venom 1: Afflicts an enemy with a moderate poison, dealing more continuous damage.

Darkness: Blinds an enemy, reducing its chance to hit.

Stop: Paralyzes an enemy, preventing it from attacking.

Dungeon: Warps the caster and party out of a dungeon and back to safety.

Lidark: Cures the darkness condition of a single ally.

Vocal: Removes the silence condition from a single ally.

Hold: Paralyzes an opponent, preventing any action.

At each step up in level, a character gets a chance to raise certain skills of their choice.

Listed weapon types so far include: unarmed combat, daggers, one-handed swords, one-handed axes, and one-handed clubs.

The TP gauge decreases over time, when a player isn't fighting

Fishermen teach the art of, well, fishing, as well as the crafting of tools useful for that purpose.

Final Fantasy XI's world progresses in real (albeit accelerated) time, so every so often players will have to stop and eat something.

I think they got a lot of angry emails because a lot of these "bugs" seem to have been fixed, but it was funny to hear about it.

Sounds like they took a preview of the Japanese version made before the game was even released and changed it a little lol.

One day I got bored and figured out how long my charecter had exsisted in Vana'Diel time (Oct.28th 03 to late 2004, I forget the date) and it was something like 24 years and half a year or so had elapsed game time.

In that span of time.. I think I may have eaten about five meals that weren't sweets or candy like cookies or marron glace, lol.

So does anyone know why Xbox is taking up FF11 and it's not staying with PS?

PS3 Harddrive is still "up in the air" whereas the XBox is confirmed will have a HDD as standard.

As far as I've heard so far, if sony include a HDD on the PS3, then it will get FFXI too.

Too?
How can both have it if it's like, i don't know, owned by one? I thought PS owned the rights to FF since most of the ff's were on PS anyway?

i think in previous thread it was never actually declared ps owned rights to FF

Sony just had a rather large percentage of SE's stock.

But... they don't "own" the FF games. Look at FF: Crystal Chronicles, FF: Tactics Advance, etc.

That's why you're only like one and a half feet tall... Gotta eat all your fish, fruit and pies, so you can grow up to be a Galka.
