Being that i have a job now and i'd like to keep it, and that i had to start over from scratch after SE deleted my character, in the future i may have a problem making money. I'd like to talk to an experienced cook that can show me easy and cheap ways to lvl cooking so that i might be able to use it to make money while i am at work ie bazaar. i have roughly 2 million gil that i can invest in it. To make gil:
I sold me pies to ah but back then people were crazy about pies so i bazaared in sandy but now they all want sushi/marron glace/shallops
so to make money i say Make marron glace and sell in jeuno ah when you get your "Raw Fish-Handling" Start making Squid sushi(77) or Sole sushi(84) and if u hq its a decent profit if you dont its either break even or a little profit so not bad and shallops tropicle may take a little longer to sell but u make like 4k a shallops i think

Hope this helps

edit: Squid sushi is level 70 cooking^^

Sirfalas quit and came back (He was level 75 NIN and 69 THF?). He has lots of friends in-game. I am sure ppl just gave him gil to help him out. And since he knows so many ppl, it just added up. Hi Sirf!

on the topic of cooking.. i am lvl80. it is the cheapest craft to lvl. with 2mil i dont' see why you cannot lvl it up to 100. but imo cooking is busy work with not much return comparing to other crafts.

i did a bit differntly at around lvl70. I made those HP regen drinks they use water crystals, honey, and fruits. all materials are cheap and sell relatively fast to AH. but if i had 2mil, i would try another craft like goldsmith/smithing or even clothing. you probably will not see immediate returns but the profit margin is much greater imo.

Apple au Lait 62 Water Crystal Selbina Milk x1, Honey x1, Faerie Apple x2
Pear au Lait 72 Water Crystal Derfland Pear x2, Honey x1, Selbina Milk x1
Pamama au Lait 81 Water Crystal Honey x1, Pamama x2, Selbina Milk x1

i plan on doing Maron Glace next or another better HP Regen drin
Marron Glace 86 Dark Crystal Grape Juice x1, Maple Sugar x1, Ronfaure Chestnut x2
Persikos au Lait 91 Water Crystal Persikos x2, Honey x1, Selbina Milk x1

I didn't follow any guide, i just look at the overal product list and pick one that reasonably above my current skill lvl and with the cheapest material, and something people actualy buy..

also, since we have so many cooks in the server already... you really need to sell HQ products to make any decent gil. or farm expensive cystals... or buy materials youself with high fame...

Reason i picked cooking is because i won't have to lvl up any other crafts to support it. The profit margin may be lower but it does have a good return with enough time. People always need food. Just need to set up a good rep for your mule. ^^

When it comes to cooking the only way you can actually make money with it is with another craft. I'm a lvl 99.3+2 cook on caitsith and i also fish, so i make sushi and what not and save alot of money, so i suggest you lvl some fishing aswell if it;s money you wanna make, or at least lvl up a good solo jobfor farming ingredients.

Hey Sirf~

If you want advice mine is to *not* level cooking to 100, heh. Right now I'm 100+1 and it really isn't a good money maker anymore with so many high level cooks on our server. The other thing I don't like about it is that you need to spend a lot of time gathering ingredients and crafting 30948039 of an item just to make a decent profit. For example some sushi requires unstackable fish and ingredients from tenshodo. Pumpkin pie which is a good seller requires 8 ingredients +crystal. Cooking is a nice craft to have but it really won't make you rich. If you are leveling THF again you could probably make a comparable amount of money simply farming now since crafting supplies are so costly (30k/stack for silk, etc)

If you do still decide to go with cooking anyway, Lalond's guide is a very good one, just realise that some of those items will never *ever* sell on AH so you have to NPC them (like the party eggs, lol). Like Dchaos I also leveled up on Au Lait drinks whenever possible because those actually sell on AH. Also, make sure you take a mule to Jeuno so you can sell all the stuff you are leveling on: juices, pies, au laits, roast mushroom, kabobs, royal tea, dhalmel pie, shallops, marron glace, navarin, rice balls, tacos, will all actually sell to a varying degree. Some you will get rid of overnight and some you will want to burn (like my 50 stacks of sweet rice cake on my mule). >_>

For subcraft it's nice to have woodworking to at least 20 or so for rice dumpling to level on for a little while, and alchemy to 20ish as well for snoll gelato and crimson jelly (if you eventually want to make those for profit).

Good luck. :)

From 1 chef to another Sirf.

2 mil in cooking will break you even and allow you to make profit. You'll probably be in the 90's in no time.

I do know if you decide to go for the gold every point in will reduce cooking. So you're not restricted in any way.

Have at it.

Hmmm maybe i will go with workworking or something then. Probly would be a good idea to make my own Shihei. I'll at least get Cooking to 40 so i can make my own Jackolanterns.
