Just curious about this:

I'm lvl 47 and i have yet to do a Ballista match yet. And i've heard it's fun and everything. But no one really talks about the rewards you get, if any. So i was wondering, is Ballista worth doing for the rewards?? Or is it just fun enough not to care about the rewards, if any?

You don't get any reward, so to speak. Think of the gil transaction as a bet. Both teams put forward a pool of gil, and the winning team wins that gil, split evenly between them.

You do get a Ballista Instaport for taking part though, allowing you to warp from Jeuno directly to a Ballista match just before it starts. And provided you actually take part in the match and not just abuse the teleport service, you will get a new Instaport and a free warp back to Jeuno.

Other than that, its just for fun, and bragging rights that you killed your friends, etc. I can probably join the 75 Ballista matches now, but I was told to avoid those because everyone is wearing God Armor and packing Kraken Clubs, etc, lol.

lol. Damn, sounds serious for you 75s. Best of luck if you do go into it though. And thanks for the info, i still want to do it for the fun of it. And a couple of my friends have been talking trash about me against this Pld friend of mine.

LOL. I want to leave my Great Sword in his back and take a screenshot of it, lol.

at your lvl, the PLD will prolly own you. @ lvl 60 cap and up.....DRK will easily kill PLD at 60....not so sure about 75 (I have never done one)

My first Ballista match (this was back before any tweaks, btw -- when it first come out) was on a 75 cap match, but I was only level 60. I couldnt even hit any of them, lol.

However, I managed to survive a Guillotine from one of the DRKs. It took me to like 100HP and his next hit finished me off, but the fact still remains I survived it, lol.

It's that thing. The one where I appear out of no where and then you fall on the ground dead.

lol. yeah, Brd vs. Thf seems unfair, lol.

But me against a Pld, i would think i'd have the advantage. With spells like: Aspir to stop his curing, Drain to suck his energy after he has no more mp, poison, bio, abs-everything (lol), SLEEP, stun, and Nightmare Scythe to blind him.....

Now Pld's have Vit, but what good is it if i'm debuffing the life out of him, with out bieng near him??

But i may be wrong, lol, after all, you are much higher than me. But with all that, i see that battle going in my favor.

Well, as a 75 DRK who frequents no-cap Ballista, I've noticed a few things. If you don't have a ninja sub, you're a big target for the other team and if you don't play smart, you'll end up dying alot and having yourself a cry at your nation's camp. If you're going straight up DRK, Guillotine pretty much owns any job, any time, any place. Largely due to the added effect of silence, there is nothing your opponent can do to prevent you from kicking their ass (just about all the JPs you'll fight will be /nin with Kraken). The Kraken Club itself isn't that impressive, as its just used as an off-hand weapon to gain TP for the main weapon.

The JP DRKs that are of note are Sum and Eiji. Sum wears full Adaman Hauberk set, and weilds an axe and Kraken, Eiji is a DRK/NIN in standard DRK armors and uses a Company Sword and Kraken. Of the two, Sum is seriously way more badass than Eiji. Rampage does on average 900+ dmg to any target (pld, whm, brd, doesn't matter he tears through everything). I've gone 1v1 with both, and I really couldn't do much with Sum, he just played way too smart. I've owned Eiji several times though.

Class doesn't really matter in the uncapped matches as much, there's a tarutaru WHM that people regularly flee from. It's just how smart you play and the equip you can afford. The former being most important.

P.S. I'm not really sure why I'm babbling about this. Haha.

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!1

I've never got to talk directly to you Reinheld.
/em nervously looks at Reinheld, and bows.

If you only knew how much i envy you man, you'd probably get Yarr to ban me from the board. You've done everything i hope to

/em heart starts beating faster, and faster

Your and fu????g uber Drk, and i want to be just like you, if not close. Probably have a loooooooooong way to go.....

/em sigh

now that that's outta the way i wanna say that I can imagine how strong Guillotine is, i've seen high lvls use it while helping me with various quests/missions. with 900+ damage, i almost pissed myself.

But at my lvl, i don't have it yet (/em sob). But i was wondering if you would give your personal opinion, Reinheld sir, based on the things i said in my last post about what i can do while fighting a Pld my lvl in Ballista. I just wanted to know if you thought all that would tip a battle in my favor, or not have any kind of baring?

Well, honestly I have no idea how you'd fair. But I'm sure if you opened with a drain/aspir/absorb-vit or something, you'd piss them off quit a bit. You'd probably be best off with a warrior sub for a 1v1 fight with a pld, but.. at that level DRK don't really have any decent WS I can think of offhand. I'd imagine it'd be a pretty even fight considering plds hit like girls and we take hits like them. Just have to keep a cool head and give your all. There's nothing wrong with going all out and getting your ass kicked. It's a hell of alot more fun than running away from people. Stun is your best friend in Ballista. lol I always use it when people run.

Also, Guillotine is fun when you get it.. but Spiral Hell is what you really want to look forward to when you hit 70+. You get to make people like Kayne cry when you do 3600+ dmg with it when you have 300TP (even though it was to the 55 cap mobs, it still made me happy ;x).

LOL. Damn, 3k+ damage? I can only imagine doing that much...

Well, in saying this Reinheld, does that mean i wouldn't be affective to start off, or use this during the battle? I'm confused. Cause i would think that all this would make the battle go exactly how i want it to. Especially since when i use all of it, half the work is done, and meleeing the Pld would be a piece of cake.

Oh, and i though Guillotine was a Drk's best WS? I never seen Sprial Hell before, what's it like??

In Ballista I don't think their is any clear formula to victory. Keeping calm and sticking with your team mates is the best way to go. 1v1 doesn't happen very often, and if you have proper equip (I totally wouldn't even bother with Sniper's in Ballista the defense deduction would suck hardcore) and stay calm, you can overcome any enemy. The only class I really fear in it are ninjas.. you just can't hit those tricky guys/gals.

Guillotine is by far not a DRK's best WS. It used to be very impressive pre-TP nerf, when you got 48% TP return with it but it's not that big of a deal now. Since TP return is just about the same as a 1 or 2 hit WS, WS like Cross Reaper (2-hit lv65 Scythe WS) and Spiral Hell (quested WS) have been boosted. Likewise Spinning Slash (1-hit lv66 Greatsword WS) got a big bump from the old nerf. Plus Sneak Attack works much better with a single hit WS than a multi.

Really, Guillotine is used for reserved for farming and Ballista for me. It's alot better with a warrior sub than thief anyway.

Heh. The detailed explanation i would expect from my idol Drk. I understand what your saying now. With this TP nerf, WS that weren't that destructive turn uber destructive, that's why they rival and exceed Guillotine. i understand, thanks for the explanation sir, lol. So i'm shootin for Cross reaper, and Sprial Hell now, cool. Thanks sir.

Oh, and well, i was wandering...........

Isn't it possible to SATA Guillotine off your Pld at high lvls with my job? (Drk/Thf at about lvl 65/32)

I permed with Peejo, so I never ever had to trick onto her so she'd have hate. I just SA/TA onto Itto, the last dragoon when we did a skillchain. And at 65 you'll be using Cross Reaper, and not Guillotine anymore. Then at 66, Spinning Slash if your GS is up to level.

Cool. My Great Sword, and Scythe skills are about the same now ( i think Scythe is like 4 lvls above my GS skill) and both are near the cap. I'm about to get Ground Stirke i think with GS, and Vorpal Scythe, so i think i'm doing a good job keeping the skills pretty close to each other. Thanks again for the info and tips. I gotta look up to somebody as an aspiring Drk, and i hope you'll allow me to look up to you??

P.S.: When you got Vasagado's Scythe, did you do the BCNM, or did you buy it? Cause i want to do the BCNM, but don't know if i'll have reliable people to help me do it, let alone allow me to get the Vasagado's if it drops. I have VKD, so i'm hoping they will help if all else fails at that lvl. (I got confidence we'll still be kicking at that lvl, a force to be reconned with, lol)

Well, considering Ground Strike is the 250 skill quested WS, think you may be thinking of something else. Hehe. I got my Vassago's Scythe a long long time ago when they were like, 10-20k. I'm not really sure how much they're going for now, but I let Omegadata borrow mine and he eventually gave me 100k for it I think. I'm not really sure what to say to the looking up thing though. lol I'm not going to shoot you down.

Yeah, sorry, not Ground Strike. lol, i forgot the name of the 150 WS for GS. damn, i'll remember it when it's too late. lol.

But yeah, that looking up to you thing just means i hold you as an image that i would like to be like in the future. the reason i asked is because i don't want to offend you, or make you feel uncomfortable with my envy and idolization of you. lol, but i probably sound stupid even explaing it.

LOL. i'm glad your soo understanding. I hope to learn how to be an efficient Drk from you and others. Learn the tricks of the trade shall i say. And have a guiding hand to help me become great like you....

oh, and another question (sorry for all the questions, i'm just really curious): When you hit 50, did you use Iron Musketeer armor? In my personal opinion, i don't like it. It's too bright, and "goody good" looking, and i'm all for darkness, evil, and despair. So i hardly think light armor suits us. Also, it looks like a Pld's equipment, and i'm not a Pld in the least, nor want to be one, so that's why i don't think i should get it. I think i'm gonna hold out until 55 for Royal Knights, then move to all my AF. (which reminds me, i might need a guide for my AF, cause i don't know what to do on all the quests.)
