COMMENT ON RECENT MEDIA REPORT

Tokyo, Japan (July 18, 2006) - Square Enix Co., Ltd (“the Company”). wishes to comment on a specific media report, dated July 14, stating that the Company is developing a sequel to its online game title, FINAL FANTASY® XI, and plans to release the title on three platforms the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., the Xbox 360TM video game and entertainment system, and Windows Vista TM the next-generation PC operating system from Microsoft Corporation.

The Company did not make such an announcement and has not made any decisions resembling those detailed in the media report.

As the Company announced in May 2005, it is currently developing an online title for next-generation platforms including game consoles and PCs; however, this title is being developed as a completely new MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online RPG). We will disclose further details of this title, including platform compatibility, immediately after any relevant decisions are made. In addition, the Company continuously plans to release expansion packs for FINAL FANTASY XI, available on PlayStation®2, Xbox 360, and Windows®, as well as perform version updates.

Final Fantasy XI Sequel in Development Square Enix plans release for PS3, Xbox 360 and Vista by Anoop Gantayat July 17, 2006 - Japan's Nikkei Net news service reports today that Square Enix is currently at work on a sequel to Final Fantasy XI. The next generation massively multiplayer online RPG is being developed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows Vista formats. Further details are not provided. Square Enix has previously shown trailers for a next generation MMORPG engine, without actually announcing a final product based around the engine. It's unclear if the FFXI sequel is going to be the game to use the new engine, or if Square Enix has another title in development. God fucking damnit all to fucking hell...

Yeah saw that earlier today. LOLOLOLOLOLOL thats classic. Oh well hope they learned from their mistakes and that SE will look toward its more successful competitors for a few ideas on their next foray into MMOs. I really did see this coming though. With no way of leveling past 75 without breaking the system and the outdated graphics being held back by PS2 support it should have been obvious.

Yeah Xbox360 as the graphic baseline isn't bad haha. Well being that it is Vista it might support DirectX10... but that would mean SE would take advantage of modern video card technology omg. Screws over PS2 users though lol. I bet it will not allow any character transfer or whatever. It will be an entirely new game and we will all be noobs again. Also from reading Azaril's windower forums, a FFXI made in Vista will be alot more difficult to make a windower for if not impossible.

They told us this at the FFXI Festival in LA 3 months ago =P But promised they will concurrently work on new FFXI updates as well as the next one.

make things instanced so theres less drama for items. and make it so when you casting a specific spell the character has a unique animation for each specific spell. I'd be funny to see them become so animated . That when they're casting tier 5 spells the taru goes nuts and starts doucing himself.

The graphics look super kick ass, but what I don't like is how much it looks like FFIX. What I didn't like about FFIX is how everything looked so midevil, yet the technology is so advanced. So it's like a futuristic old world. I'll probably end up getting this as well. Hopefully SE doesn't break it like they did FFXI. And I hope there's only like 3 servers at first so I'll end up seeing you guys on there and I can annoy the fuck out of you.

I'd like to see jumping and more abilities. If SE took it more towards the U.S end of the development philosophy I'd be happy. It'll probably gravitate more towards the Korean side though. I guess that's cool too.
