Quote:
OTTAWA — Consumers are being warned not to consume some Cadbury chocolate eggs after pieces of hard plastic were discovered in the product, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Thursday.

The following Caramilk chocolate eggs are affected by the recall:
Caramilk, with the UPC 0 615712 4
Caramilk Maple, with the UPC 0 615882 2
Caramilk Cafe, with the UPC 0 615892 9
3 Eggs Caramilk, with the UPC 0 61200 05431 6
6 Eggs Multipack, with the UPC 0 61200 00581 3
12 Eggs Multipack, with the UPC 0 61200 21134 4

Quote:
The
alert quoted above began circulating via e-mail in early March 2006, and the information it supplies is valid: the Cadbury confectionery company has launched a Canada-wide recall of three flavors of its chocolate eggs after a consumer was cut on the inside of the mouth by a piece of plastic found in one of those confections.

According to Luisa Girotto, a spokeswoman for Cadbury Adams Canada, the problem was identified as having occurred on a particular production line in Hamilton, Ontario, where a small piece of plastic used to mould the eggs chipped and got into the candy.

The recall involves an estimated one million chocolate eggs, about 10% of Cadbury's Easter egg chocolate product line.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has posted a health hazard alert about these candies on its web site:
HEALTH HAZARD ALERT
PIECES OF HARD PLASTIC IN 39 g CADBURY CARAMILK, CARAMILK MAPLE AND CARAMILK CAFÉ CHOCOLATE EGGS

OTTAWA, March 1, 2006 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Cadbury Adams Canada Inc., are warning the public not to consume 39 g Cadbury Caramilk, Caramilk Maple and Caramilk Café chocolate eggs described below because these may contain pieces of hard plastic.

The following Cadbury chocolate eggs are affected by this alert:

Chocolate Egg Size/Weight UPC
Caramilk 39 g 0 615712 4
Caramilk Maple 39 g 0 615882 2
Caramilk Café 39 g 0 615892 9
3 Eggs Caramilk 3 x 39 g 0 61200 05431 6
6 Eggs Multi pack 6 x 39 g 0 61200 00581 3
12 Eggs Multi pack 12 x 39 g 0 61200 21134 4

These products are individually wrapped in a foil. These eggs are sold in singles as well as in multi packs containing three, six or twelve eggs with or without other flavours. Only the Caramilk chocolate eggs described above are affected. These chocolate eggs have been distributed nationally.

Consumption of these products may result in an injury. There has been one reported injury associated with the consumption of these products.

The manufacturer, Cadbury Adams Canada Inc., Toronto, Ontario is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

For more information, consumers and industry can call one of the following numbers:

Cadbury Adams Consumer Relations Line: 1-866-782-3267 (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday to Friday).

CFIA at 1-800-442-2342 / TTY 1-800-465-7735 (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, Monday to Friday).

Damn, I was wondering why I couldn't find any Caramilk eggs. I ended up buying a pack of those caramilk filled bunnies instead. I felt so guilty eating the cute little guys.

If they need anyone to find the chocolate with plastic, I'm willing to be a tester.

I live in Ottawa and work in retail and that is definately true lol, they randomly pulled all of our chocolate eggs out of the store then posted a cheap ass sign saying that if you purchased an egg, return it . . now im thinking to myself. . if you purchased an egg you've mostlikely ate it, therefor your fucked /laugh.

You mean "Kinder Surprise"? I think the difference with those is that they do actually tell you there's a plastic toy in the middle of it, lol.

Anyway, I was talking to someone (american) once and they had no idea what I was talking about when I said I was eating a Cadbury Dairymilk. After that I figured you guys just didn't have Cadbury's lol.

Cadbury's are good, you only ever seem to be able to find them around easter time though. Stupid egg laying easter bunny likes to shortchange us Americans. Least you guys up in Canada still have those slabs of Caramel thats are so ridiculously good. Mcsomethingorothers. Yeah little red box with a slab of caramel. hit it against somethign hard and it shatters into little tiny pieces of delicous caramel. Uhm anyway yeah I relly like those last time I was in toronto for a week i must have eatne like 30 of em (not counting the ones I brought back home). Might I suggest those as a replacement till the recalls over :) Canada has all the good candy....

So I guess the egg really did come before the chicken...

Curses... those damn Canadians knew all along >.<

And Ket, yea I'd be confused until you mentioned Cadbury bunny or something else to me, you see Cadbury's is kinda of an Easter seasonal thing in America (unsure what it is in Canada). Since Easter bunnies and religious hlidays coincide and make so much sense. But, the chocolate of the Cadbury egg represents the wooden color of the religious cross...or so I'm told. : P

Actually , you can find cadbury dairy milk bars in Wal-mart, trust me i know, i was so happy when i saw it, granted its not exactly the same as the UK one, its produced by Hershey under licence from cadburys. Most Americans are stuck on the Hershey bars though, but i think one taste of a cadbury bar would change that for life. Seriously American choclate is nowhere near as good as the UK stuff, i think thats one of the things i miss most.

if you spend enough money on convincing the population something is the best, eventually theyd think a pile of turd tastes like filet mignot.

the only way to fix americans ideals on whats good is to actually speed up the process of global capitalizm, bringing more competative products from foreign countries. unfortunately american industry doesnt like to adapt, hence why our domestic auto makers are going belly up. make a shitty product and people will buy it until a better (japanese and various otther) product gives them more bang for their buck.
