Ramen and Japan aside, I was raised as a traditional american nerd, with american comic books.
As I was younger, I read The Amazing Spiderman, Superman, Spawn, The Punisher, and other things like that, now I focus more on manga and things of that nature, but I still like to nerd-out at Half Price Books whenever I see old comics.
Lately I've been finding old Teen Titans comic books so that I can OFFICIALLY hate the fucking cartoon. I read a few back when I was a kid, but not enough to object to anything in the toon. Now that I've read through it, I'm wondering how horribly they are going to strangle the "Main Plot" of the toon, because alot of it is VERY graphic (Slade being shot in the face by his wife, Raven and her Fathers entire backstory, and the death of a few titans- not gonna spoil anything)
It will probably skip past all that and have the usual no-storyline episodes where they fight aliens and stupid villains, while only occasionally making references to the comics when the handful of Slade episodes and Raven's Past episodes.
But either way, if you've seen the toons of any of the great heroes of comic book lore...do yourself a favor, track down the comic books and read them. You'll be happy you did. Same applies to classics like Superman, Batman, etc.
