(KP International) Word on the web is that Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Joss Whedon has quit writing and directing the upcoming film adaptation of Wonder Woman.

"I'm no longer slated to make Wonder Woman...I had a take on the film that, well, nobody liked," Whedon is said to have written on his website.

The director, who signed onto the project last May, continued: "Let me stress first that everybody at the studio and Silver Pictures were cool and professional. We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that's never gonna work. It happens all the time. I don't think any of us expected it to this time, but it did."

ok obviously what happened here is Whedon wrote a script\story that was totally in sync with the DC universe. It seems that Hollywood studios HATE to follow a story exactly as it is in comics. Hollywood loves to add the campy factor to every comic to movie conversion.

Its too bad because Whedon is an especially awesome writer when it comes to stories with a female protagonist.

Not really. It all depends on how in depth you go with the character and story. If you keep it shallow then yes its going to feel campy.

Wonder Woman is a much bigger franchise than the books you listed off. Catwomen almost never has her own book. Elektra is on and off (right now she doesnt) and Iltra Violet and Aeon are cult hit characters.

Wonder Woman is an icon. Shes a huge character in the DC universe and has had her own comic series since the silver age of comics. She also had her own TV show that was very populare during its time era.

This movie could be a really wicked and entertaining movie. People seriously under estimate how cool and powerful Wonder Woman is. I mean we are talking about a Female super hero who can go toe to toe with Superman.

oh and don't forget about that vampira movie that bombed too.. damn we should list all the really horrible chick superhero movies they made. I can't even think of one decent one.. and that's pretty lame because some hot chick dressed scantily clad, showing off her physique, and being a badass martial artist special power having motherfucker SHOULD in theory be like jenna jameson slurping whip cream off your johnson to the lonely video game playing comic book reading nerdasaurus. Ah well, I guess we like our women in the kitchen not out fighting crime and super villians.

I've always seen Wonder Woman and Captain America as iconic American super heroes that no one really cares about anymore. They are kind of relics of the WWII era. I'm sure the studios are struggling to find a way to update the Wonder Woman character so that she's relevant to modern times.

the problem with chick superhero movies is that the executives and probably 75% of the potential movie-going audience are not interested in some cool storyline with awesome effects and action sequences, they're only interested in seeing some hot actress parade around in a skimpy outfit shoing off her t & a.

I never really got into Wonder Woman to be honest. I am sure they could come up with an entertaining take on the comic, but Hollywood probably will just make something horribly retarded.

my only interaction of Wonder Woman is through JLA comics and the JLA Cartoon. Shes a pretty cool character. Her TV show was a smash hit back in the 70s.

Yeah exactly. I have a feeling that the studios are expecting to see a sexy wonder woman in an all new sexy outfit. Where as Whedon is more concerned about developing the character and keeping her costume identical to the comic. Whedon is currently a writer for Marvel doing the Astonishing X-men series. I dont read this series but its well know as one of the best Xmen books currently in production. I know reinheld loves it and I keep meaning to get into this series too (after civil war).

Wonder Woman sucks. She's not even an American and she's paraded around as a huge patriot because she wears stars and stripes on her ass.

And Catwoman has had a more stable comic than WW ever has.
