Well, i honestly can't say I've been around Reston in 7 or 8 years...back then all of northern VA was a very nice area to live in. I lived in Sterling(eastern Loudoun county, fairly close to Reston) until i was in the 6th grade...and i guess my parents noticed that the area was changing for the worse and they moved us out to the western edge of the county, very rural area out here. When I go back to Sterling now (still have family there...wish they would move) I can see how bad it's become. The only areas in northern VA i would recommend *against* are Sterling, Herndon, and the slummy parts of Leesburg; there is just lots of gang activity these days and I am so thankful that my parents got us out of there before it got so bad. Reston is most likely still a good area though, i think it is Fairfax county...but it might be on the edge of Loudoun. The good thing i can say about northern VA (loudoun county in particular) is that the public schools are absolutely spectacular. Sure, I hated it while I was going through it lol, but now that I look back, it really did prepare me for college fairly well. The grading system is very demanding (no passing a class with a 50%, you need a 70% here) and the teachers (in highschool, the ones that really matter

) were very good at what they taught. I have seen teachers before that absolutely don't know what the hell they are doing, lol.
I guess another thing to warn about is that in northern VA, houses and property are very expensive, as it is a very popular area in these recent years (last year or the year before Loudoun County had the fastest growing population of any county in the enitre country). My parents paid ~$210,000 for our house 8 years ago, and now it could sell for near $600,000. Basically these days you will be paying a lot of money for a small house on a small piece of property
Hope this all helps out. If i think of something else I'll post it.
