Sonic Youth (1982), Melvins (1987) and Janes Addiction (1988) all started in the 80s. Most of the grunge bands started in the early 90s (1991 for Alice in Chains - Facelift).

yeh but let's face it sonic youth, melvins, and jane's addiction didn't really receive any kind of mainstream attention until the 90s.

yea, I cuss like a sailor, or is it a pirate? It is absolutely amazing how much shit is involved in making a independently/commercially released record, so much bs and bureacracy, the best book about the music industry I'm reading right now is "Confessions of a Record Producer" by Moses Avalon. I've already covered a few bases but it's absolutely amazing how many shams and scams there are and how corrupt and full of shit everything really is.
I got to register a with the uniform code council over the next week or so and that's $750.00 just for a UPC to slap on the album so all the sales (if soundscanned tracked *which could be meaningless in it's own right if things don't go well) will actually mean anything should a "major" take interest (chance is .000001%). It seriously will be a few more months but setback after setback has ensued on this thing but for every 1 step back I get 2 steps closer to finishing and that alone feels better than anything.
I see people now that still haven't even tracked their album to a master and gotten out of the studio. I've also seen a few that didn't legally cover their ass. I still got a few more steps of my own to do. Seriously, I miss just "making songs." I need a street team of peons and management to make me like every successful artist has lol. I'm self-ade and that alone is a pretty damn big accomplishment. Not many can say they handled the production, writing, performing, recording, partial engineering, as well as the business. However I have noticed that it's almost a requirement now days in a highly musically competitive environment.

- B.

New Steven Wilson interview about the new Porcupine Tree album along with pieces of the album between the interview. The inspiration behind the record speaks amazingly well to me and is stronger than any in recent memory.

edit: you need Windows Media Player 10 or higher I believe.

Awesome. On Snakes and Arrows' liner notes Peart mentions The God Delusion:

I don't care what anyone says, I've always thought Neil Peart was a great lyricist.

You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose freewill

The new Rush song (you can find in on their site) sounds absolutely awesome. It's definitely Roll the Bones era, which I personally love.

that's right. Peart writes all the lyrics, however.

Peart doesn't write all of them.
