(CNN) -- Reality TV star and former model Anna Nicole Smith was pronounced dead Thursday after being taken to a Florida hospital, a law enforcement source told CNN.

Smith, 39, collapsed at a south Florida hotel, according to news reports.

"I can confirm that she is deceased. It's as shocking to me as to you guys," Smith's attorney, Ronald Rale, told Reuters. "I don't know anything further. [Her lawyer and husband] Howard [K. Stern], obviously, is speechless and grieving."

Smith's nurse called Seminole Hard Rock Hotel workers at 1:38 p.m. and security went to the room, hotel officials said. Fire rescue workers from both the Seminole Indian tribe and from Hollywood Fire-Rescue arrived minutes later and Smith was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood at 2:10 p.m.

Smith was involved in a paternity suit regarding the parentage of her daughter, Danielynn, as well as other disputes, including some regarding a house she stayed at in the Bahamas around the time she gave birth.

Earlier this week, Smith was included in a class-action lawsuit against a company, TrimSpa, for which she had worked as a spokesperson. TrimSpa makes a product it claims leads to substantial weight loss. The lawsuit alleges the marketing of the product, TrimSpa X32, was false or misleading.

Smith's son, Daniel Wayne Smith, died at age 20 just days after the birth of Smith's daughter. Pathologist Cyril Wecht said a lethal dose of methadone and antidepressants caused cardiac

I actually feel sorry for her. She's gone through a lot in the past year what with her daughter being born and her son dying a few days afterwards. Plus the paternity suit concerning her daughter, and all the other lawsuits. It's too bad.

She probably OD'd on coke. Seminole Hard Rock casino ftw lol. Really I feel sorry for her surviving kids. She was a car wreck waiting to happen anyways, and I am not shocked in the least that this happened.

Does it make me a bad person to feel worse about the fact that I will undoubtedly have to put up with hours of news coverage about this than the fact that she's dead?

I just wanted to see a discussion thread on it lol. I used to hate her sooooo much because of that annoying show. I don't really know much about her now. I remember hearing about her son dying of a meth overdose or something. That's just one f'ed up family. I wonder how she died. My guess is drug overdose!

I hate sounding judgemental but for all the hell she has actually been through I feel she kinda created on herself. I'm just not sure how good of a person she actually was. She treated members of the Hogan family like shit, she hustled her way into money and treated a billionaire like shit in the end, she "appeared" as if she habitually lied about a ton of things. She just seemed like a shallow, self-centered, jaded individual. I have no doubt she loved her children but ALL MOTHERS LOVE THEIR CHILDREN! We see how fucked up and failed she was with the her 1st child. It's how you treat the rest of the world that truly reflects upon one's character. I feel like an asshole but this event wasn't tragic, it's almost deserved. Maybe the newborn will have a better quality of life now that she's gone. Mean to say, but it's possibly true. I'm just not politically correct enough to soften blows, I call things as I see it.

i really didnt care for her, untill just recently, and now im completley bummbed out by this, i found out after i got out of school, and immidiatley part of me died, its weird, she was a fat duisgusting playboy bunny slut celeb, but i liked her.

ive also recently gotten into reading about Anthony Kiedis, and how much hes been through, and its really made me appreciate that im still alive and live in a house.

I just read it. It's wreaking with retarded "music legend" shit that's obviously fabricated, i.e:

"According to his autobiography, Kiedis used to adopt the role of a "protector" in school, defending all the kids who were outcast or bullied. When future bandmate Flea was playfully putting Kiedis's friend in a headlock, he told Flea to back off. When the misunderstanding was revealed, they became friends."

And it's not like he's the first rockstar to become addicted to heroin or anything. Flea is the only remotely interesting aspect of The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Anthony Kiedis is a terrible singer.

keh, im going to have to agree with you on the singing, but i found the book to be pretty intense, and he marked is as a "memior" and be defenition, wouldnt that be a true story? but i guess it would be easy to lie about details, though James Frey didnt seem to pull it off to well. a book i really enjoyed was disco bloodbath by james saint james, later reprinted as party monster after the 2003 release of the movie. but thats really a whole nother story.

back on topic though, i blame TrimSpa for killing anna.

Autobiographies can be exaggerated a lot if you haven't lead a particularly interesting life. I'm sure that Kiedis' autobiography was ghostwritten by a professional to add dramatic and suspenseful elements to what could otherwise be a less than interesting personal history.

im sure it was, and im sure more than 90% of every autobiography written follows that same trail, or else no one would read it. im glad we can agree on something.

lol @ bug Wasnt Keidis homeless or something? im not a huge fan of RHCP but as far as he cannot sing, well there is alot of people making money from CD's and concerts that cant sing, look at death metal.
