It just came out on DVD and I missed in the theaters somehow. Anyway it is a great movie and might be the best of the films directed by Martin Scorcese (which is saying alot imo). It is up for 5 academy awards and probably should have been up for more than that. My dad of course loved it as he is an Irish guy from Boston and his brother is a retired member of the state police. You should see it if you haven't already, especially now that its out on DVD.

I really want to rent this on HD-DVD but no one rents out HD-DVDs (except online places).

The 4 Blockbusters near my house all rent HD-DVD and Blu-Ray movies. It is lame that you can only rent one Xbox360 game at a time there.

The movie was indeed badass. Specially if you like Mobster/Gang movies...

Oh the good days of The Godfather & Scarface...

I thought it was aight. but then, i've thought that about every movie that came highly overrated: american beauty, blow, etc.

Casino is my favorite Scorcese, but The Departed is up there too. It's better than Goodfellas I think.

i personaly didnt like the movie that much. I find it was over rated. Ending was dumb and wierd and it was too much of a "new yorker" movie if you ask me.

It was a Boston based movie lol. It was about gangs in Boston, not New York. Mark Wahlberg and Matt Damon are from Boston. Overrated is one word btw. As a Martin Scorcese movie goes, it was what he usually directs. He does gangster movies and gangster movies are not "new yorker" exclusive. My dad enjoyed pointing out how they tried to explain via character why Leonardo Dicaprio's South Boston accent sucked so badly compared to the rest of the people in the movie who lived in South Boston at one time. Alec Baldwin was almost cartoonishly over the top with his accent while Dicaprio slipped in and out of his and was quite half assed. Really good movie after watching it a second time, but not as great as Goodfellas.

you know who else couldnt decide on an accent.. tom cruise in war of the worlds, for like the first 10 minutes he had a NY accent, then he just decided he wasnt a newyorker anymore..

Its all better than the infamous Robin Hood talking like an American shit Kevin Costner pulled lmao. That guy is worthless and I don't know why people keep seeing his movies. Tom Cruise fucking sucks lol. Dicrapio is also extremely overrated, the best thing he ever did was play a retard in Gilbert Grape. Johnny Depp plays the same role over and over when he does his crazy guy/drug addict routine... ever notice the parallels between Jack Sparrow and Raoul Duke? Almost the same fucking character as far as how he plays it.

glad some one else agrees, i mean johnny is a good actor imo, but there is no doubt in my mind that he stole that act.

Don't forget Hunter S. Thompson in your drug addict/crazy person routine for the Deppster.

I haven't seen this yet but in defense of Alec Baldwin's cartoonishly over-the-top accent, it's totally possible to naturally have a cartooonishly over-the-top accent, I am one such person, lol.

Also /agree@dicrapio's best act being the retard.
Edward Scissorhands wasn't a drunk pirate.

Clearly you need to re-watch Edward Scissorhands. That circumcision scene was unnecessary. And gory.

I dunno, Leo did a lot movies, and I hear Blood Diamonds was pretty good but have yet to see it. Basketball Diaries and Catch Me If You Can were also other interesting roles he did as well as pretty decent movies. And it would seem like many of you only characterize Depp in his "out-there" movies. I thiink Depp did a pretty good job in Blow and Donnie Brascoe.

/sarcasm on
And Depp's acting in 21 Jumpstreet was legendary!
/sarcasm off
