I finally got around to doing all my Dell Certification tests.

So now im a Certified Tech. This basically means when the servers and stuff breaks down I dont have to call the 1-800 number and run through the stupid diagnostics with some dumb ass tech. I can just order all the parts online and stuff like that.

hurray for me.

ok Tech Certified people, I need help

So my main PC snapped last week.. I heard a snap and the pc just totally shut down. Then I smelled some burnt and it wouldn't turn on at all.. so I figure it was the power supply box.

SOOOOO I went to buy a power supply box today, replace it. Plug everything back where it did. AND YAY it has power.. BUT... why is my computer still boroken? There are no signals going to monitor (Black Screen), doesn't seem like the hardrive is its processing anything.. Hardrive seem to have power and not broken.. isn't going into CMOS stuff.. (Well even if it is I can't even see it) But I don't hear any loading noise. What are some of the possible problem?

Basically its a test on their machines and what error codes mean what. how to remove this and how to add this.

Its all just a test on how to use the documentation. Really, I did no studying or anything just sat down one day and did all the tests in like 5 hours. I had no problem at all.

Its the AS400 course thats going to be hard. Id love to get into AS400. I want to be one of the consultants we call into my work who cost like 200 bucks an hour and he does jack all.

Check that you have all the power plugged in on the Mother board and make sure you have the right wattage for the powersupply.

are there specific wattage for differen mother board?

My old one was 300 I think the new one I bought is 400watt but the red button both pointed @ 115 volt

Yeah that should be fine.

Just push in all the connectors on the motherboard then. like IDE cables, power Cables just about anything that plugs in. 9/10 times that fixes it for me.

300 W --> 450 is fine...

the 115V is the setting for whether you live in a place that pumps 120 V or 220 V (like in europe).

(you want it at 115 setting)

Does the fan of the power supply run? if it is running, most likely the power supply is okay.

If you get no beeps or fans activated on the rest of the motherboard, most likely its fried, and you will need a new one. (Of course if this is the case, there is no way to tell if your ram, cpu vid card etc. are all okay till you get a new mobo, or just try hte parts out on a diff mobo.)

G/l hccm!!

There seem to be power on the mother board.. like my ethernet card light is on after I plug power in.

lol... Thanx Yarr your advice helped

I took everything apart and notice that some of the ping on my pentium chip was crooked (Must of been when I was trying to figure out what happened to the computer first time I didn't put it back properlly) so I just bented them straight (which wasn't a easy task hhah like millions of pins) and then placed it fine and now I'm back on the mian pc..

Thanks lol

Post subject:

yeah I did that to tals computer once haha. I bet like 10 pins and spent about an hour bending them back. haha

You should really at least try to course. I found it interesting and its not too hard.

I got all my couses at a technical Highschool. No side programs or college classes.

Actually I was looking at doing the courses at a College here like 5 min from my work.

Haha wasnt trying to tell you where to go, just saying how easy it is. 7/10 of the students passed the tests... at a highschool...
Try it out, and if you need any help i have references and testing programs for both 210 & 215.

Ugh... I remember having to do those stupid Dell diagnostics back at my student assistant job at the local community college.

The ones we had came on a floppy. One time, we ended up with a computer that wouldn't turn on. Wouldn't even try to turn on. We tested the power supply with a multimeter, everything checked out fine, the connections to the motherboard were fine... So, process of elimination, must be a motherboard component somewhere, right? Not like I could test the CPU, Dell really wouldn't like me doing that.

So, I talk to my boss, he says, of course, call Dell, get it replaced. Which I proceed to do.

First thing they ask me (NOTE: I've already informed the person on the phone that the computer will not turn on) is "What code(s) does the diagnostic disk show?)

None, I say. The computer wont boot. I can't run the diagnostics.

"Well, maam," the person says, AFTER I introduce myself as a Mr., "I can't do anything without a diagnostic code."

You can see where this was going, I'm sure. Took about 45 minutes to get this person to finally understand that I wasn't trying to avoid doing the diagnostics.

Those were the good ol' times...
