My dad's doing some sort of 'incentive' sp? anyway system that if I get first honor roll all year that he's going to get me something, since getting it this year and next is a good chance of lowering college costs.

But I don't know what to get, and he keeps asking me so I'm asking your opinions. Not sure how much he's going to spend but he said xbox 360 so probably looking at a good bit.

And school in 4 days :(

a brand new car
a few escorts
funding parties every weekend including cost of kegs, strippers, and any drugs you will be using.
100 dollars cash every week
top of the line gaming pc
unlimited shopping sprees at random stores of your choice
paying your rent and utilities (or renting you out a place if you still live at home)
backstage passes to every concert of an artist of your choice.

-or-

you could forgo the cash and just have him do stuff for you like:

be your personal chauffer/taxi WHENEVER you demand
waving and and all punishments (assuming your young enough to still get punished)
doing any and all chores for you
etc etc

How old are you? If you play XI you probably wouldn't even use the 360 enough to make that worthwhile, lol.

I know it's hard to think about the future if you are in high school, but having him put away a lot of money for college for you would be nice. If you want a reward *now* maybe he could give you cash or something and just put away a smaller amount for college. Jim's idea of having him get you an apartment is really awesome but if you did, I don't think you'd be able to keep up those good grades for a second semester. ;) Giving you more freedom while you're at home would be good though.

I start back to school in 4 days as well, my only incentive is getting out of here, finally, haha. At least be happy your dad is being cool and offering you anything. :) Gl this semester~

your own apartment for college!
thats a really good idea. getting honor roll should show you have enough responsibility.

All I ever got was my dad saying "Hey, now I know you aren't stupid" when I maintained a 4.0 in highschool. Good grades benefit you later in life, that should be all the incentive you need. Wait, I just had a stroke of pure genius. I know the best incentive for all the kids. If you don't make honor roll you get punished. It's a psycological aspect of people in general that they will go without something that benefits them for doing well long before they will accept punishment for not doing well. This is a touchy subject with me as I think giving rewards for something you should do in the first place is wrong. It sets up a bad standard for life. In my opinion tell your guardian you want nothing other than the satisfaction you are doing something you should. It will make you appear more mature to them, and you may get something you want anyway. Now I am off to go hand candy bars out to people who have never killed someone before.

dont ask for anything TOO over the top, my parents promised to get me a $25000 dollar car if i got Academic Top 10 when i graduated from highschool and got a full ride to the local private college (since they wouldnt have to pay for college). Well, i graduated #10 and was offered the scholarship, then my parents said "oh, we cant do that anymore".... i was pissed....

I would go with the little things, like a little more freedom, borrowing the car, later curfew, less restriction in what you want to do. For materail things, i would ask for a new computer w/ a flat monitor, because parents always think it will be used for "studying"... but make sure its a good computer

Not to sound like a prick (and probably unsuccessfully), but that crap is ridiculous. I graduate valedictorian in a class of 550+, get somewhere around 2 B's in my entire life, and I get jack. I'd be thrilled if I got even a fifty dollar game once in awhile...y'all are spoiled... = P

Still, scholarship money rocks. It's nice not having to worry about financial issues in college...

I thought this topic was about being on the honor roll, not about your tragic childhood.

Pshh. My childhood rocked. Video games and ice cream floats. I had money, you know, I just had to work a bit for it, that's all.

the reason is because thats been your normal your whole life. you always got straight a's. however if your normal is averaging c's and barely passing, then obviously the parents realized they need some motivation for there kid. he's being rewarded for going above and beyond his normal.

I usually get B's and some C's, but my dad is trying to give me incentive to do it this year and next because of colleges and scholarships and such.

I don't believe that...yeah, it's "normal" for me to get straight A's, but that's because I'm not only intelligent, I've worked my ass off my whole life for those grades. Someone else should be rewarded because they've been lazy most of their lives? Hmph.

It isnt "normal" for anyone to graduate valedictorian. I dont care how smart you are, it is harder for an A student to graduate valedictorian, than it is for a B-C student to get A's. I think feep's complaint is justified.
