Damn i cant find the article online. I will summarize it. It came out of Aug PC Mag. You guys are slow!!! why is this not posted :P
Hatachi's record-setting drive reaches a data density of 230 gigabits per square inch. To make this technology work , the distance between the read/write head and the recording media must be just 10 nanometers , or 1/10,000th the with of a human hair!!!!!! Hatachi is working on micro drives like crazy right now. 60GB 1 inch drive for cell phones and such.
InPhase Technologies has announced it will ship a holographic Drive next year that can store 300GB of data on a cd sized disk and can deliver access times of less then 200 milliseconds. Maxell will manufacture the disks. ( It looks like a yellow clear cd)
InPhase is shooting for disks with a whooping 1.6TB of capacity by 09'!!!!! OMFG THAT IS HUGE!!! They are working on a credit card size disk that can hold 20 GB. Rewriteable holographic drives are scheduled for 07'...
Sony's Blu-ray disks may eventually hold 200gb.
CRAZY :D
