Post subject:  Looks like Im going to Boycott Spiderman 3.

I refused to watch Spiderman at first because of the casting. I was beyond mad that Tobey Maguire was playing Peter Parker. I almost exploded in rage when I found out that Mary Jane was being played by Kirsten Dunst.

However, I was happy with Alfred Molina as Doc Ock and James Franco did an ok job as Harry Osborn. Although the best casting was Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin.

When I heard an interview with Mr. Marvel himself Stan Lee I couldn’t help but feel I was being unfair. If he felt they fit the roll, then I can’t really complain. I mean that guy created those characters. So I watched the films. I do like the movies, I just think they could have been so much better.

So now I’m even more frustrated. It's been a long time since I read those comics (I was in like grade 4) and god knows my reading skill wasn’t even that amazing. Still, I love Spiderman. Easily my favorite superhero of all time.

My interest in Spiderman was during the Secret Wars when Venom was first introduced. I really loved Todd McFarlane's work in Spiderman. Its probably why I loved the series as much as I did. I also think the cheese 3d cell shaded version they showed on MTV (I got the DVDs) were a great update to the series. Only because they really showed that "never winning hero" emotion that Spiderman had. Something the movie never really gives. I mean it does, but not in all the areas it should.

OK so I guess I better explain why I am so mad. They just released the casting (or at least I just found out) for the next two Main Villains in Spiderman3.

Who are they?

The Sandman and Venom.

Im seriously worried how they plan to fit in Venom. I assume they are going to cheese out and go the "simple" story route that the Ultimate Spiderman took with Eddie Brock being Spiderman’s cousin and the suit being an experiment (man made not the sentient symbiote it was in the comics).

I was never a huge Sandman fan. I didn’t mind him in the Sinister Six. Although the TV Cartoon had some other version of the Sinister Six with out him. I didn’t even notice until i reread the comic series (one of my favorite mini series btw).

So guess what. they totally F'ed up the casting once more.

Who is going to play Venom?

Everyone’s favorite skinny Nerd from That 70's Show. Topher Grace. Seriously. Eddie Brock was always a bigger well built guy. He was stronger than Spiderman with the suit thanks to his athletic abilities. They really should have gone with someone else on this choice. I seriously do not think I can enjoy this movie seeing Forman running around as Spiderman’s most deadly foe.

Sandman again is not a character I love (venom is) but I still cant say I agree with their choice. Thomas Haden Church will play the Sandman. Not too famous but people might remember him from the old series "Wings" where he played the comic relief of "Lowell" the always stupid and uneducated airplane mechanic.

Seriously…

I'm going to murder someone today

I personally would've loved to see the "Seperation Anxiety" storyline play out in live action format. . . even better would be a full animation. Hearing how it might work out is a tad disheartening, so I'm thinking I might be taking the same stance as Yarr. I'm an old Spidey fan too! ; ;

yeh venom was built like that huge guy in the program he would've been perfect for that role.. actually sandman from what i can remember was brick too, i remember venom, hydro, and sandman all kind had the same bulky, block headed look about them no? I shall have to go look up some images on them... I'm pretty sure I remember mcfarlane portraying them that way, that's when i first got interested in spiderman.. up until then it was all about wolverine.

It doesn't really matter who plays venom tho, because I have a feeling that his sequences will be 95% CGI with all the symbiotic shit that his suit does.

oh and it make sense, how else are they going to get flocks of teen boys and girls to come see the movie w/o cutesy little teen actors in all the roles?

I felt Tobey Maguire was the perfect Spiderman. He was nerdy and had that certain "feel" to him - I also though Doc Oc and Goblin were PERFECT.

I was the same way as you - McFarlane made me LOVE the Spiderman series. lol I was crushed when he left for image. (God I'm such a nerd) I actually have his last issue with Marvel; I think it was an X-force/Spiderman split but it's been a while. It had "Bye, Todd" on the cover...

Back on topic.
Also like you, I LOVED the cosmic spiderman/venom series and even more than that I love Carnage. omg If they make this into something other than the symbiote then that completely fucks the rest of everything to come and ruins my dreams. lol

One thing that I really hated about the movies is that although (apparently) Stan Lee worked with the directors/writers there are a lot of little things wrong. The biggest thing being the way his weebing works...pisses me off.

As for the casting of Venom....That's quite possibly the worst choice they could have made. lol Venom was a pretty big guy (But carnage was rather small/thin) and it was one of two things that made him such a great villain. (The other, of course, being the fact that he was crrrrrazy.)

I can't say I'll boycot it though because I'm too much of a nerd not to go see it..

Yeah or they could have just had the third movie with Peter using the symbiote suit and the ending could have been the sceen with Peter at the church bell almost dying and leave the ending with the suit slowly slinking away and the next movie is all set up. Assuming the third movie covered the whole the stuff between spiderman making eddie look like a fool. It would have been perfect.

Although I thougth they were going to use The Lizard since they had Doctor Conners in the last movie, only for 30 seconds, but whatever.

Yeah, I noticed the Lizard reference too. lol

To be honest I think Venom was the only good villain in the entire Spiderman series. haha The rest were just retards..

guys remember, this guy probably will be asked to gain weight to better fit the role. Remember to take note that tobey had to take 6 months of physical training just to get back into the spiderman bod

Yeah unlike you guys I didn't like the first two Spiderman movies that much (they were entertaining though). The whole thing with the webbing bothered me alot (supposed to be synthetic not coming out of his damn wrists). Also I hated the power ranger look of Green Goblin... wasn't too happy with how they did Doc Oc either since his tentacles never controlled his mind and he was always evil.

The guy from that 70's show is going to have to gain 60 lbs of muscle to look like Eddie Brock. Venom was the best villian Spiderman ever had since he was formidable... most issues spidey would kick the crap out of mysterio, sandman, etc all at the same time lol. They better not go alien symbiote crazy either.. that shit was fucking lame. Carnage was ok, but after that it got out of hand. Just more Hollywood garbage... at least I know there will be no way possible for it to suck as bad as the Fantastic Four movie.

I think they used Topher because they wanted someone the same age as Eddie. I mean he wasnt that old. Using The Rock or someone like that would make him far to old. So really they only got the age range right lol, oh and maybe the height haha.

I doubt Topher could fill out enough in 6 months unless he does some serious roids. Hes really the poorest choice and clearly it was done for reasons of "hollywood". As in they are just bringing in more stars for bigger box office numbers.

Hollywood thinks this

Bigger stars = Better movie.

Id take a cast full of unknown actors over a starlit cast.

Unlike matti I like a lot of the villains. I mean some of em were really cheesey lol (insert Electro reference here lol) but some were really cool.

God I use to love Rhino haha. So stupid and funny.

yea, that guy is skin and bones irl. And for those that aren't down w/ the work out routine, it is very difficult to gain even 20lbs of just pure muscle.

I have read articles of actors going through special training and stuff, but gaining 60lbs of muscle/bulk is going to take quite a long time. I mean, in The Matrix, they took 6 months to learn judo/tai kwan do/and other martial arts.

This guy is going to need to take many suppliments, eat lots and lots of protein, have the best phyiscal trainer, and have the best of luck. Oh well, we'll see.

Ugh. They were all so terrible. lol

Up to the point that McFarlane took over I was a huge X-men fan so I was used to better villains such as Magneto, Juggernaut, Mr. Sinister, and Omega Red. omg

I liked X-factor when they made it up of the original X-men. Wolverine of course was also a favorite of mine.

Eternus I didnt like how doc ock was controlled by his tenticals too. I also hated the metalic look of green goblin. The webbing bothered me but Stan Lee that came up with that idea. He said the slingers wouldnt have gone over well with general public.... whatever, like a 6 foot flying green goblin was any more buyable.

Dont even get me started on how annoyed I was during Spiderman 2. I remember at one point I cringing so bad that my girlfriend at the time even mentioned it after the movie.

God how many people have to know Spiderman is Peter Parker?

Tobey Maguire was probably the best choice for Peter Parker, and Yarr, my opinion of you is less for thinking otherwise. Haha. When it was unclear if he would return to the role they were talking about Jake Gyllenhaal taking it over, and I think he didn't fit the part at all.

Having Sandman as a badguy could be pretty interesting.. even though introducing Venom and him at the same time could prove strange. They'll probably make the suit and Sandman's power come from the same experiment or something. Haha. Topher Grace as Venom is effing stupid though.

Wait a minute!!! What happened at the end of Spiderman 2? Basically, the birth or discovery of the Hobgoblin by James Franco. Does this mean that the producers are confident that Spiderman 3 will be a Huge success so the Hobgoblin can be introduced in Spiderman 4?

I dont know but with James Franco discovering the Goblins equip at the end of Spiderman 2, that totally opens the door for the Hobgoblin. Kinda wierd for them to by-pass this villian IMO with the door showing the beginning of the character forming.

Harry actually turned into the green goblin.

There were three versions of the green goblin.

1) Norman Osborn
2) Harry Osborn
3) The Phyologist that treated both Norman and Harry.

The osborns had a special chemical to make them super strong and they had the gadgets they invented. The doctor only had the gadgets. Course I would have to double check that. I think the chartoon (the 90s version) had harry turning into the hobgoblin IIRC and that confused a lot of people.
