Originally this was a reply in my TV thread. However its a good post and I thought I would make a full thread for it.

Anyway

Heres what happened.

Original TV on sale for 999.99. Comes with a "Free" Theater in a box system.

I ordered the TV only because the sales guy said he could knock off 125 bucks if I didn’t want the "free" TIAB offer. I paid in full cash (debit card).

5 days latter the item was out of back order and I had to change the order from layaway to an actual order. When I get to best buy they tell me I have to purchase the "Free" TIAB deal. If I don’t want the TIAB then I can buy a 125 gift card. I was really pissed since I purchased the item under the notion I could get the TV only.

I had to wait a good week for delivery. The TV was dropped off and they didn’t leave the box. No big deal but if I ever had issues and needed to send it back to the manufacturer I would have been in trouble. Well I would have had to find something else to ship it in.

The original TV I got was horrible. The top right corner was very blurry. The colours were off quite a bit and I had to manually set the convergence quite a bit. After a couple of days I noticed the convergence was off again by the same amount it was originally. I once again spent a good 2 hours and set it all back as best I could (and it still looked off). I day or two later I noticed the convergence was once again off. For some reason the Convergence would not save to the TV. There’s a save option and I was using it and it.

I went into best buy where the only solution they had was to have a Magnavox rep come down and do a physical convergence reset. I was annoyed because this wouldn’t fix the problem it would simply cover it until I moved it or over time I had to have him come down again and set it (after a few years the convergence will need to be tuned again and to have him come down again would cost a few hundred dollars).

I then went to the exchanges and had them exchange it for a new unit (same model). Well I forgot my receipt at Sunshines house. That was my mistake. Although it shouldn’t be a big deal considering I had it shipped to my house and all the information on the sale should be in the system. However the rep that entered my sale (not the layaway) put in 398 when the start of my phone number is 333. I didn’t even tell her the number. She made the mistake copying my number from one sheet to the computer.

I had to wait around the Exchange area for 45+ minutes before she figured out my number was entered incorrectly. I waited 45 minutes for what should have taken less than one minute. Sure I should have had my receipt, but not having it should not have taken this long.

The CSR then told me she could have it shipped to my house the next day between 8AM and 1 PM. I was going to book time off (and Ill tell head office I did) and wait for it but my mother and talisin were home and offered to take care of it for me.

The day went by and no one showed up.

I called best buy at 2PM (an hour after the latest return time) and was told that all the managers were in a meeting and the person I was talking to could not tell me why the item was not shipped. He asked I call back at 5 when the person who could answer it would be available. Yes, he asked me to call back, he didn’t offer to call me back.

I called at about 5:30 and when I did the guy I talked to said he would call me back shortly with an answer. At 8:30 I called back and got the same guy. He was "just about to call me" and told me he couldn’t figure out what happened. He told me that the only person who could answer my question went home. I then got shoved to a CSR who happened to be the person I was dealing with the day before. She said she would look into it and call me back. At 900 she called me back. She was unable to figure out what was going on but would call me the next day. I gave her my work number to call me at since I wouldn’t be home.

At around 10:00 I called best buy since she said she would call at 8 I assumed she wasn’t going to call since at this point I had no faith in best buy. When I talked to her she said the problem was she told me the incorrect date. She said "tomorrow" when the ship date was actually two days later not the next day. That meaning the item was on its way to my house as we spoke. Only problem was that I wasn’t ready for it. She gave a half assed apology and then tried to blame me for the error. "The date is on the paper I gave you" she said. "you should have checked the date there". Oh but as a "sorry" for wasting 5 hours of my mothers time and making me run around calling best buy all day I was given a 25$ gift card. Yeah 25 dollars... What a joke that was.

So I quickly called home to see if anyone was there to get the TV. Luckily my Dad was home and the TV was actually being brought into the house. Although my Father was very annoyed. The drivers refused to carry the TV down the driveway and my dad had to pull out two cars and park them on the road (in a no parking zone) so that they didn’t have to lift it as far. When they backed the truck in the broke a huge branch off of the tree at the end of our driveway. My Father was really mad. After all the last people who shipped my TV didn’t ask me to move any cars. They then insisted on bringing the TV in the basement door despite it not fitting. After they almost scratched the screen my father put his foot down and told them to use the stairs (something I said to do when I ordered the TV). Complaining like children they used the stairs.

I got home and the convergence worked fine and the picture was more acceptable. Not the greatest but it was what I paid for. However, the right corner was now far worse. The last TV was blurry but I could look past it. This one just annoyed me all the time. Also, the image would shift over an inch left or right as if it was adjusting the image. I thought maybe this was because it was in Auto but it was happening all the time. Even in 480p mode. I found it annoying and distracting. So did everyone else who watched my TV.

At this point I was fed up. I figured I was going to have to get a new TV. Something different. Perhaps something better.

I went to best buy with Sunshine and it took almost 30 minutes just to find a model we thought was ok. We found a Hitachi we liked for its silver colour and design and nice image quality. We sat in the "Exchanges and Returns" line for about 30 minutes only to have the CSR tell us to talk to a TV salesperson. So now it’s been over an hour.
We found some fat guy who was a pain in the ass. He was condescending and simply told us "the TV is out of stock and on back order". We asked him "well what should we do" he simply told us that the back order could last a while and he couldn’t tell us how long. He didn’t offer to help us find another TV. He didn’t try to find out how long the Back order was or give us an ETA. He just kind of left us there to figure out what to do.

Furious at this point I went directly to the Manager. She simply pushed us off to the TV Sales manager. He was a pain too. Rather then show us all our options he simply pushed us to by the "Toshiba" model because that’s the one he owned and that’s the one he like the most. We told him many times we did not want that unit. I even said that I wouldn’t mind spending more. He just showed us other Toshiba models. I started to wonder if I was really talking to a Toshiba rep. I then had to stop him and just asked him to tell us how long it would take to get a Toshiba. He said that the ETA was January 2006 and that the order was for so few units that they probably would cancel the order since it was an end of line model anyway. He didn’t even offer us the display model for a cheaper price. He just went back to talking about the Toshiba.

Sunshine then was getting far to frustrated to deal with him or any best buy people. I asked for him to let me think about what we would do next.

We decided to just return it and use my old 27inc crt TV. Then as we were walking down the isle we noticed someone putting a new sign up to the Sony. It was a 500 dollar cheaper model. This one had no HDTV decoder inside of it. Other than that it was exactly the same unit. Although it was double the price of the original unit (more actually) I wanted it. I then had to search for the manager. He didn’t even offer a discount on the TV or a discount on the stand. After 2 hours of bullsh!t that day and even more in the past. We didn’t even get so much as a dime.

I then had to wait 30-40 minutes in line just to talk to a CSR to do the exchange. I had Sunshine go get a drink over at the restaurant (milestones) just next to best buy and wait for me there. When I was doing the exchange I asked to use my 25$ card. Too bad no one had any clue what I was talking about and no one could find any notes. So I couldn’t get the discount and I probably will never see the 25$.

When I was done the TV Manager said he would get the stand so I could have it set up before the TV would arrive on Wednesday. Yes I now have to wait another 4 days for the TV. I also have to hope it’s the right day.

I took about 15 minutes to find him. he brought out the stand on a cart and said he would have someone bring it out to my car for me. Sure enough 10 minutes later someone showed up. I looked at him (he was far weaker than I was, so I don’t know how he was going to "help me") and said "OK I’m parked not to far back" and he then said "Just bring your car here and Ill load it up" and to that I replied "I’m not leaving this plaza yet. Can I actually just carry it to my car?" I could have easily done this. He then said "No its no problem just bring your car over and ill load it up!" he said that with a stupid smirk on his face. I then said "no it would be easier if I just went to my car I don’t want to lose my parki--" and he cut me off saying "No, no I would suggest you bring it here I can help you put it in the car so its easier for you, Customer service!" and then I rolled my eyes at him and moved my car.
When I pulled the guy was nowhere to be found. I walked inside and found my stand on a car all alone. The person helping me had left in the 2 minutes it took for me to pull my car up (I had a good parking spot). I then had to push it to my car and load it up on my own.

I swear to god. I hate best buy and I never want to go back again.

I need to find the head office number and tell them all the BS I have put up with. At this point I would rather go somewhere else just to avoid giving them any of my money.

That's retarded.... I know how wasting that much time on something like that feels. The HQ are like.... near my house, I'll go yell at them on behalf of you.

It's clear Jesus is upset he couldn't get into CKD... j/k. Sorry you had to go through all that, I think I've had a problem with bestbuy in the past and had a very similar experience. The worst thing of all, you can write letters up to the highest rep, complain all you like, and it'll just be a long wait through tons of bullshit litigation resulting in an apology and at best some form of monetary reimbursement (prolly another giftcard you'll never see). I don't understand how some people write letters and actually get results like having the people who handled them get fired and/or getting to keep their item and being fully reimbursed for the cost of it and any other troubles they accrued as a result. Basically, you'll have to accept voicing your frustrations to a csr as your only form of consulation, because it's doubtfull you'll get any more than that for your trouble unless you really want to pursue it aggresively, which will probably wind up being way more of a hassle than the whole situation is worth. Regardless, I wish you good luck with however you choose to handle and pursue this, and with the new TV. Keep us posted if you score some form of sweet reparations.

Why I hate Bestbuy:

1) They tried to single-handedly own wireless networking off as the best solution to all networking set ups. I just need a cordless phone to showthem wrong.

2) Their selection is pure crap, though I give them a 1/2 kudo for having Toshiba.

3) They treat my like shit whenever I go in their, like I dont know what the hell im talking about.

4) Mostly the same reasons why I hate radio-shack, but a bigger store, they're overpriced.

Best Buy needs to re-design their customer service training and re-train the entire lot of employees, including management. I felt like we were just talking right through the salespeople and management. Any time Yarr or I would try to re-explain the problems, we got a nod from the person, a "yes, that sure is a problem" and then we'd be passed on to someone else. We must have walked around the media center, to customer service and back about 30 times. It was probably the most annoying and infuriating shopping experience I've ever endured, and I think I'm a pretty patient person. Needless to say, the drink I had at Milestones was much needed and I felt much better afterwards!!! lol

Now all there is left to do is hear Yarr gush about the new tv, and when we gets it, he'll probably be dry-humping it a lot, but that's better than hearing complaints about the magnavox! AND...I'm becoming a tv expert. lol

who did you talk to when they started talking about the TIAB deal? if it was one of the little guys, they were probably just trying to sell a promotion that the general, uninformed public would bite and not say anything about. if it was a manager/supervisor on the other hand, that would be something you need to see the store manager about.

As for all the toshiba selling, most of the time they carry a variety of TVs, but most sell out faster than others, so the want to point ppl to the TVs they have in stock in order to get their inventory out.

Ya, best buy delivery sucks ass. my brother was a manager there and was getting a fridge/freezer shipped to his house and they were a day late, and banged shit all on their walls. they were not too happy.

other than that, welcome to christmas retail, its a bitch for both ends.

If your situation happend at our best buy probably someone would get bitched out/fired. We hardly ever have problems with customers at all. I think it all depends who the General Manager is and what kind of employs they have.

Yeah I think one of the biggest problems we had was that when we did get "Fed up" we went right to the manager. She didnt even listen to our problem she just put us with the manager for the TV section.

I was annoyed because we wanted to complain about our situation. We wanted to see something change(as in we wanted someone to say "hey we messed up here lets see what we can do to fix that", nothing did change. We just got a different TV. A TV that we had to find selves.

I called the best buy for canada 1866bestbuy and talked to a bestbuy CSR. I got about half way through the story(up to the part about no truck showing up with my replacment TV) when I stopped to say that I was only half way done. He then told me that he was going to give this ticket to the Area Manager to look into. I talked to the CSR a little after explaining that I dont mind if someone makes a mistake here or there. The problem I have is that almost no one in that store has helped me at all. In fact every step of the way was a problem and that its a clear sign that something is wrong over all. Not just that something was wrong one day. He agreed and was apologising a lot too.

So now I can expect a call from the Area Manager with in the next 24 hours. If I dont.

lol all hell is going to break lose.

dont ever ever ever complain to anyone inside the store. i know from personal experience they dont give a fuck and do bare minimum. what you need to do is contact the store manager, ask for their district managers number and also a number to their coorperate office.

you then call the coorperate office. make sure you get a few things from the store manager. the store #, not the phone number but the actual number like itsd be Best Buy store #4978. get the store managers name, along with say in this case; the customer service people and the TV sales manager (while youre at it get the name from a manager of the dipshit who was bringing your TV outside.

you then talk to the cooperate office and the more information and pist off you are, the more free shit you get.... seriously. chances are theyll send you gift cards as well as coupons to name a few. whys this? because coorperate doesnt give a shit about you, BUT they dont want you to cause problems so they basically throw free shit at you (because they can). there is a price to this, they then send a signal from the complaints down the chain of command. each boss gets chewd out pretty bad when really big complaints happen, or a lot of them. not to mention its logged so when that store manager goes for his yearly or w.e review... this and any other bad marks are weighed against them.

the next step is to call the district manager. the only reason you do this is to kinda gloat it up. he wont give you anything and will prolly kiss your ass. if you say this "Hi my name is _____, im just calling to let you know that i filled a complaint with your coorperate office about the horrible service i recieved a week ago. i was calling you as well to inform you of the incompetance i had to go through." or some shit like that, the DM will now have to face the problem. i mean you already called coorperate so he cant shrug it off like so many managers do, hes going to hear about it soon so his first instint is to address the situation before he hears about it so he can say "yes i have taken care of this matter" and looks like a good little puppet to his boss.

make sure you tell coorperate that you really dont feel like you want to purchase anything from Best buy ever again thanks to this incident.

one of my girlfriends used to work at a nine west. now what people would do was exactly this lol. even though nothing was wrong theyd call and complain and would literally walk away with 2-3 pair of free shoes every 6months or something like that. with that said, the more you bitch to the right channels, the more free shit you get lol. and make sure you spend any free gift cards and shit you get in this store... just to rub it in a bit more =p

As for getting really angry if no one calls you back, I am SO excited to benefit from that one. lol That'll be a lot of fun! I'm very understanding in a lot of situations, but at this moment, both Best Buy and Canadian Tire are on my angry list...the Canadian Tire thing is a WHOLE other story though.

Yeah Xiona I called the head office and now Im waiting for the Area Manager (the person above the store manager) to call me so he can investigate.

Its going to be interesting to say the least.

I also told the guy at head office that I was considering canceling my order and just getting the TV elseware out of spite.
