my prof was teaching us about "Aldehydes" today, like formaldehyde which some of you may have heard of.

then he drew this Image which is butane with an aldehyde group at the end. to name it you take "butane" and replace the "e" with "al" and it becomes...

BUTANAL
the teacher was all serious. i was the only one laughing in class but i couldn't help it lol!!1 didn't anyone else see it's called BUTANAL???

lol omg I would have died. that's hilarious. who knew chemistry could be funny? I'm so immature, I get a laugh out of someone screwing up a word like "section" or something similar and they start to say "sex" instead. It happened in my night class tonight. lol

Funny, I took a organic chem class last summer and that never dawned on me lol

If I had seen this back when I did A-level chemistry..

....thinking about my chemistry teachers, one of them would not have understand what I was laughing about even if I bent her over the desk and demonstrated it while shouting BUTANAL, and the other would probably have laughed along with me, with the rest of the (8 man class) staring in horror at the two of us. Then proceeded to tell some of my other teachers who would also have found it funny, as would my head of year...but everyone else would just avoid me lol.

Perhaps it's for the best that this connection was pointed out to me 2 years too late. Teacher wasn't that hot anyway.
