The Magic the Gathering thread got me a little nostagic. I played MTG on and off between like 5th-6th grade, but never really got into it. However, I was pretty hardcore into AD&D as a kid. My older brother played it, so of course I wanted to play. I was in cub scouts and boy scouts until I was around 14, and during camping trips we would stay up late at night playing AD&D in someone's tent. I played between the ages of like 10 and 14, then surprisingly enough I got back into it my senior year of highschool haha. I had a group of about 4-5 close friends in highschool and I convinced them all to play AD&D, with me being the Dungeon Master. It was pretty fun when I was a kid, and also fun again when I was like 18.

I think at one point I owned the Player's Handbook, the Monster's Manual, the DM's Guide, the Book of Spells, and a few handbooks for various classes, like fighters, mages, clerics, etc. Rolling new characters was always one of my favorite things. Of course I'd keep rolling until I got the best stats in each category lol.

Is that where the term "rerolling a character" came from? Jesus, I just thought it was some random slang.

Oh yeah by the way (this is the best thread to put this in judging by the first two posts), new DT DVD was recorded at Radio City Music Hall on Saturday. They played SDOIT (all of it) with an orchestra. I'm a gigantic DT fan now, haha. I've got every studio and live release.

lol Ponuh, im not suprised. Most younger people who never played D&D wouldnt notice.

I played for like a year when I was in grade 7 er 8 (like 11-12 years old). I had a blast and at my school it was considered "cool" lol. Not joking at all, for some reason the nerdy things like D&D, Comics (marvel only), MTG and stuff like that was considered to be "cool" since all the "cool" people were playing.

I played a halfling lol.

I think one of the best times playing was when our DM (my friends older brother who we all thought was "cool") had us teleported to the future and it took us forever to figure out what was going on. The GM discribed everything from the perspective that we had never seen things like cars and phones before.

god im such a loser lol

I played a decent amount of D&D when I was a kid. I also played it a few years ago with some friends of mine for a little while, was weird lol. I played a chaotic evil... so basically I would attack anyone and anything (including party members). It was fun since the DM had basically everyone looking for us, well since I killed any NPC we came in contact with. The DM would get so pissed when I killed NPCs he scripted to be quest givers haha. He started making them more powerful later on, so we couldn't kill them. Think we stopped at the quest where we had to get a scale off of Tiamat for a Lich King... yeah we didn't really think that was going to turn out too well. I think Neverwinter Nights 2 might be good actually. The first had some awesome mods and the last expansio of it went epic level with more prestige classes.

Played Shadowrun and AD&D with a friend way back when. The DM I played with made it so that your charecter could be something out of the monster's manual. I remember playing a mantis-type of creature with lances, fun stuff, haha

The remade shadowrun a year or so ago, dont think its played anymore, but the new version was like an action figure clicks game with gear and stuff, it was pretty cool i played it once. But yeah i played D&D a little bit but i quit because i dont like the people around here that play, its had a huge revival where i live at one of the local comic shops.

Yeah our DM did the same thing... my friend was a Minotaur and another guy played a Drow. Think we played mostly Forgotten Realms and some Dragonlance maybe. Anyone remember the Marvel Superheros game? That game was pretty fun also.

Whats the A stand for?

I have the DM's guide, the Player Handbook, and the Monster guide in my dresser.. I used to play with my brother and his friend in the winter until we got Diablo II.

Was going to get more to keep playing, but my bro's friend moved and the only other kids would take the figures and mess with all the pieces...

pissed me off -_-

Advanced.

I think regular D&D was played from like the 1970s to the mid 80s, then they started putting out all the "advanced" stuff in the late 80s and 90s. It's all basically the same thing, AD&D was just an upgraded version of D&D.

lol, when my husband and I first started dating he tried to keep his love of rpg and comic books a secret from me. He thought I would laugh at him and dump him for being a turbo nerd. When I finally did find out, I joined in. He was really into Shadowrun, Paladian, and Rifts, his brother was more the AD&D guy.

Ever notice that whenever you knew some kid who was really into D&D, he had an older brother that was like 30, living in the basement who just happened to be a DM?

Jail employee fired for allegedly striking his wife over Dungeons and Dragons toys

OCALA, Fla. (AP) — A Marion County Jail corrections officer was fired after an internal affairs investigation determined he struck his wife in an argument over his buying Dungeons and Dragons fantasy toys.

Investigators say Edward Bonthron and wife Lori Jo Bonthron were arguing at their home last month over whether he was paying too much for the toys.

Lori Jo Bonthron told investigators she was hit, pushed and choked.

Edward Bonthron has worked at the jail since September 2002. Loir Bonthron has worked there since January 2004. The couple has been married for about 18 months.
