Thanksgiving 2004. I was eating dinner with all my relatives. And I ate real fast and got up early and said "I got something I have to go do," and they were like, "yea? what?" And I was like, "I'm meeting some people.." "..online." Then I left and got online for some event, who the hell knows what it was, I don't. These are the same relatives I am relying on to put me through college. I hope they don't remember that! How about you guys? |

yea... Thats what really hit me hard.. The drama didn't help but when i realized i actually did that. The guilt became too much to bare. |

turning down a vacation at my friends house in vegas cuz it was my last month of ffxi. but yea guilt got the best of me and i went on the trip anyway |

I made it a point to not neglect family and friends. This is why I only have one lv.75 job and it took me until last August to finish WHM, haha. I can't think of a defining moment except on the occasion I bother to look at /playtime. |

i dont remember a specific event, but i do remember turning down friends for ffxi, i didnt get out much when i played. i turned down eating dinner with the family too. |

NA release and one 75 job (tons of merits though). 156 days and 11hours playtime total. I still catch shit from my family about playing too much... I would have gotten better grades in some classes and cared more about the jobs I had if I was not playing FFXI though. |

Well I hate turning down friends to do something in FFXI.... but my friends always have something going on. There's never a time when they don't wanna go out and do something. So I hang out with them most of the time... and then I'll make up excuses like "I'm tired" or "I'm gonna do homework." Lets face it, I never do homework. But I can only take so much of IRL before I wanna spend some time by myself, IRL wears me out, so I go in phases. I haven't really touched FFXI for a little more than 2 weeks now and I don't plan to until maybe next week if I have time. It's real weird..... sometimes ffxi controls my life and sometimes I couldn't care less about it. |

I would get into shouting matches with Tal over stuff in game. lol pretty stupid. Also cutting family dinner down short was a big deal or not wanting to go out sometimes. Thank god that didnt last long. |

I was registered for a PF Changs Rock and Roll Marathon, which started pretty early in the morning on a Sunday (Jan 2005). I was so excited for it and trained for it a lot. I planned on getting a full nights sleep so I could do well. The night before it, I got invited to a group doing several Bastok rank Missions (got the invite at like midnight...I should have been asleep already). I accepted b/c I wanted rank 10 bad. We didn't finish till 5AM my time. I just pulled an all nighter playing FFXI, then drove downtown and did the marathon on no sleep. As a result I did horrible. Felt like I was coming down from drugs or something right at the start. I met my Mom and my Sister there and they said I looked horrible. I was too embarassed to tell them what I did, so I just said I couldn't sleep well b/c I was excited. |

In addition...getting Kluya to 75 killed me irl. I had many days where I went into work on like 3 hours of sleep feeling like a zombie all day (FFXI hangover ftl), I bailed on many happy hour invites, missed friends house parties, passed on other random bar and vacation invites from friends. I really missed out on a lot irl with what i've put into this game. I got a lot of shit from friends too. Ephit was an rl friend that started with me but he quit at level 71 b/c he was having the same problems (and I took over). I've been able to balance the game better since I've been playing Ephit...but I don't have CoP finished, don't much gil, and don't have multiple 75 jobs. I'm just playing casually now for fun. I take a lot of long breaks and back out of FFXI events to go out irl (haven't done dynamis since like October lol). It was really hard for me to learn balance with this game and took a long time. |
