Post subject: | Computer Problem... |
I've been trying to solve this internet problem on my own for over 3 months and I'm about to go crazy...I can't figure it out. Basically, the connection seems like it stops and goes randomly. I'll load up an internet page and it will only load up half the page, and it just cuts off the rest of the page. The hourglass animation will sit there, but nothing will happen if I leave it there. If i leave it there after about 5 minutes i'll get a little box that says "This document contains no information." If I reload the page it will either load up less of the page, or load the entire thing instantly. Im sure its not a problem with the browser...AIM constantly dissconnects and reconnects also. It is also definitely not a problem with the ethernet cable or service since I've switched the cables around and another computer is running perfect off the same modem. Another weird thing is some sites work almost perfectly, and some none at all. For some reason I cannot even access collegehumor.com, it's like it doesn't exist. I've posted the problem on like 4 different help sites, and no one has an answer. Anyone have an idea ![]() |

Unplug your router/modem for about two minutes and plug it back in. |

Stay back from the porn son and you should be fine. I've got the MS spyware and avg running full time, and done many checks...never found any type of virus or spyware. Think it would do any good to reinstall firefox?? |

It could be a virus, it wouldn't be firefox because it now updates itself, so any intursive software would be overwritten anyway. It could also be your ethernet port. Changing the cabling won't do anything if the card got some sort of short. Actually my card died a little bit ago, actually it got a short. It wasn't fully able to achieve its max speed. Like the highest the standard card is like 10mbps. My card was only able to hit like 1.5 highest even though my cable modem speed was more like 5 mbps |

It's actually a pretty new computer, was built last september, the only strange thing that happened was the power supply just totally shit out one day, and gave off this weird plastic smell for about a day. Kind of smelled like ants lol. It was just a crappy power supply since it came with the case, so i had to buy a new power supply...but the internet problem actually started before that. Ugh I don't even know. Thanks for the replies though. |

Poncho snorts ants, lol. The only way to check if its the network card is to put another one in and see if its better. What you do it take off the case, unscrew the screws, pull out the card, insert the new one, plug everything back in, start it up and install drivers. |

Hmm run a bandwidth test on the computer. Check with your isp your max speed. If your perform terribly low even though your isp is saying it should go faster. Then it could be that. I can't say 100 % sure because i need to have in front of me for me to be able to tell. |

Hey Mikey, what do you do when a computer asks what mode to start up in, then when you pick one, it reboots and asks again? We have 5 people in HR that should know what to do, but we don't, lol. |

Allright I'm going to try running a new card in it, i think that solution makes the most sense since the other computer running off the same connection is perfect. Thanks for the help btw guys. |

#1 Virus/spyware (but you said you checked both already) #2 Your network card might have exploded when your power supply did, you don't need a lot to break something in your pc when your power supply die. #3 Network cable (the one between your pc, or the one inside your house) |

Speaking of computer problems... On my old PC a while ago, pulled out the headset by accident while it was still on, and the whole thing just froze up. Now it wont boot at all, it just starts up, and stays there with a black screen doing nothing. I got back into windows and BIOS once each, both times it froze a few seconds in. Im guessing it to be the motherboard acting up... any other ideas? |

Chances are you pulled that headset so hard you may have slightly damaged the motherboard while doing so. |
