You know just saying that brings an interesting point.
Whisp are you an atheist? For quite a while i've thought of myself as an atheist.

Thinking more about it though, alot of things don't add up. Evolution is understandable and seems very logical. But what triggered that? If the answer you or anyone comes up with is ( natural causes) Nature has had to have some type of divine or higher power to actually trigger or dictate it.

And something thats been bugging me more than anything. We understand the concept of gravity, for example how certain elements attract eachother or what not. But isn't it funny how gravity just happens? It has no concieveable power source. It binds us and everything ( as we understand it) in the galaxy. I think that itself is proof that god or sometype of diviene being. Hell i just felt like writing that. I don't intend for this to become a debate.

I get what your saying Mikey, while I'm not really into any organized religion I do think it's a bit strange how we accept that the Big Bang happened but how and why? So basically, "In the beginning there was nothing, and then it exploded." So yeah, I believe in a god, what he really is or has to do with us or even if he ment to create everything, I don't know. Hell he may have even guided evolution for all I know in order to "create humans."

As for that picture... of all the places... lol I don't think you can call that divine intervention...

what i've learned in my biology and chemistry training has boosted my confidence in my belief that there is no spiritual realm. your whole body works based on chemical stability. everything is in a constant struggle towards equilibrium. your heart beats because that's the most stable state for that configuration of atoms. we are able to stand and stay in one piece because of hard proteins in and around our cells. our body is basically a colony of cells, each has an almost identical set of DNA inside. that DNA is manipulated by its environment to turn on or turn off certain programs that in the end determine how the cell appears and how it functions.

we weren't there when life was formed, so we can do nothing more than guess. but DNA is a highly reproductive molecule, naturally attracting its complementary units. i can easily picture loose DNA or RNA being the molecule type that lead to life. not much different than a virus. yes viruses need living cells to reproduce in, but only because they and we have become highly specialized to take advantage of one another. as for evolution, i see no problem with it at all, considering we have selectively evolutionized canines and felines and many many plants, for example. we know mutations occur, we know selection occurs on the levels of reproduction and survival. we see the differences of past life forms in the fossil records. we can even see ancient-like animals when we look at places with less cause for genetic variety, like islands. with all that, considering how the conditions of early earth, with no free oxygen but tons of methane and ammonia, have been proven to give rise to the building blocks of life, everything just points me towards a natural origin of life.

the origin of matter is a different story. i don't believe there was a beginning. to time or space, or matter. the problem with settling for a beginning (big bang. or god. etc.) is you still aren't explaining the beginning. what came before the big bang? what came before god? nothing? then why did they start? or if they are eternal, it doesn't really soothe the inquisitive mind that rejected eternal space/time/matter for being eternal. i believe the big bang was just an occurrence that explains why nearby matter is moving away from us. but we can't see everything there is, we know because as we continually are able to see deeper into space, we see more matter.

all this brings us back to... why are atoms in a constant struggle for equilibrium? like mikey said, why does gravity do what it does? and if you find the answer, i'm sure you will discover a new question. i like to stick to the physical, the testable, not the so called spiritual realm that seems more fake as i get older. but, even though it seems like there is no explanation in sight, and no end to the causes of effects, that's no excuse for anyone to stop trying to find out. peering deep into the anus of a dog is a great place to start your search.

Whisp,your right on so many levels,and i seem to agree w/ your ideas/views 100%

In the end,its just questions followed by questions. but for now,
I can say that what we find in our history (physically) is more credible than following the many books of men who would be considered crazy in this day and age.

I agree Whisp, personally I'll go with what can be tested and proven before what I'll simply agree with as law based on the writings of men who thought the earth was the center of the universe and that the stars revolved around Earth. You're also exactly right too about the beginning of the big bang and for that matter, god. What was before "the beginning?" What was before that? So on and so on, it probably is a really uninteresting story. I'd rather concentrate on here and now.

Most religious beliefs were brought about in order to control the general population. Take hellfire for instance, nothing will keep the general populace in check like a little fear of everlasting torment. On the other hand, sitting on a cloud playing a harp with a halo and angel wings for eternity isn't exactly realistic either...

Bottom line is, things don't work due to miracles, they work due to design, whether that is the design of a creator or simple evolution I'm leaning toward the helping hand of a god of some kind personally, but hey, I could be wrong, it's happened before... lol

Take the Earth, much closer to the sun, we're toast, much further away, we're an iceball. We have the exact mass to keep orbit around the sun to keep this orbit and this also has something to do with the masses of the other planets in the solar system as well if I remember right. If I remember right we need to set asteroids from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter into orbit to extend our further from the sun in the next billion years in order to keep from burning up from the sun getting hotter as it turns into a red giant. Anyways.... I can't remember this exactly either but I think I read that the chances that life would start on this particular planet (via lightning stricking amino acids starting a chain reaction) were in the hundreds of millions.

Ok sorry about that, f---ing Statistics and Probability classes were a requirement for my graduation last semester...
