Im not saying im "Proud" to be Canadian, or that Canadians are better. Canada has its own stupid problems. I just cant believe some of the stupid things I see happen in the US. I think the thing that bugs me the most is how people sue for the most retarded reasons ever. Ever since I got HD-TV I have been forced to watch Detroit and Washington stations. I get all american programing including comercials. Whats the difference? Well american broadcasting consists of 1 advertisment every comcercial break to promote some lawyer who can help you make money. Dont forget how awesome daytime TV is and its 1 million adds for schools that can help you become a dental assistant! Yes even you! So this morning I read this little prize right here. http://www.azcentral.com/offbeat/articl ... 01-ON.html Quote: MySpace blogger who spread sex gossip sought
Associated Press Oct. 2, 2006 06:20 AM ATHENS, Ga. - Authorities are searching for whomever posted a long list and description of supposed sexual encounters between dozens of high school students on the online networking site MySpace.com. Oconee County Sheriff's officials said they were investigating who posted the gossip about North Oconee High School students Sept. 1-9. Since gossip isn't a crime, the sheriff's report lists the offense as distributing obscene materials to minors. The list describes sexual encounters and could be accessed by people younger than 18. "There's a lot of difference between writing on a bathroom wall and distributing it all over the world on the Internet where anyone has access to it," Lt. David Kilpatrick told the Athens Banner-Herald for a story published Sunday. advertisement Students argued with one another, disrupting classes, when most found out about the MySpace blog, said principal John Osborne. Kilpatrick said that MySpace gave him the e-mail address of the person who created the site, but that it was an anonymous Yahoo account. He said he would subpoena BellSouth, the Internet service provider used to create the e-mail address, to try to determine who paid for the Internet service. Any student found to have created the site could be expelled because the school's conduct code covers off-campus behavior that affects school life, Osborne said. He said they might also face lawsuits from parents of students cited in the postings. I mean seriously here. Why the hell should this school and the police be doing a massive investigation into ... Gossip... This is a high school we are talking about. Shouldnt the school and police be more concerned with say Drugs? Or Guns? It seems really stupid that a student can be kicked out of their school for writing gossip on myspace. Only in the great United States of America! |

"As of the 2000 census, the consolidated city-county (including all unincorporated areas in Clarke County except Winterville) had a total population of 100,266." Its a pretty small city compared to most other cities, we have a housing development here in Orlando that has that many people living in it. Small towns are usually close knit and gossip can usually be a big thing in a small town where everyone knows someone by last names, and no one lives very far. Calling America pathetic because of one small town trying to sniff out a gossip monger is a little much. Entitled to your opinion, but I figured I'm entitled to share my own as well. Its easy to pick singular events, or groups of similiar events, and make generalization about an entire country. Especially when you have values which are inconstitent with that country's current political motiviations causing you to be prejudice. |

This was an example. This was not the only event I based my opinion on. I live very close to the boarder so I see all the US new stations. I get all the NY state (not including NYC) news and have all my life. I now get Detroit and Washington news. It was after getting these RAW US channels that I realized how sad and patetic the USA is. Youre just a bunch of cry babies who feed off of mistakes and weak\weak-minded people. |

you took the quebec thing out hahah! Ok well. Heres one thing that bugs me. I don't quite understand french canadians lol. Its 2006 and they're still trying to succed from the rest of canada. Here we don't have that issue. But why bother wasting tax dollars to seperate yourself from your own country? Wouldn't that be an economic disaster really? I remember a while ago Quebec tried to make french the national languge. It didn't work. That fine and all, but then they've made montreal mostly french. The text books ( as i understand this) and even street signs all in french. While its cool to keep ones culture and at least maintain it, isn't it almost unconsitutional to try and force an entire country to speak and live the way they do? I wonder about that. Now i'm not pointing at yarr really cause he isn't french canadian lol. But its just one thing really that bugs me. Ohh and you guys have a town called Dildo |

Why does Canadian currency have British monarchs on it? I was talking to a Canadian guy in the printing industry when I was in Munich, Germany about that and many other subjects. He thinks it is pretty lame that there is another nation's dead ruler on your currency. I know we have George Washington on our dollar, but he was a part of what started our country. The US was a former colony, but you don't see us paying homage to the Brits like Canada still does lol. Quebec is weird because the rest of Canada speaks English (the majority at least). The fact they want to seperate due to a language barrier from the rest of the country is hilarious. Miami isn't trying to seceed from the US so it can have its own Spanish only speaking country for example. |

We have the queen on our money because we are still a part of the commonwealth. The commonwealth of nations is made of 53 sovereign states/nations, which used to be british colonies. Queen Elizabeth II is the head of commonwealth and the reason she appears on our money, pictures in the post office, on stamps, etc is purely symbolic. French Canadians are crazy, ask anyone from Western Canada. The majority of Canada's population is in Quebec and Ontario, though, so they get a lot of sway when it comes to politics in this country. If Quebec, alone, voted for one particular political party or policy...All of the votes in BC, Alberta and Manitoba would not be able to counter it. How's that for a stupid political system? |

So you are saying the majority of Canada speaks French? If so, then you are kinda fucked in a sense if Canada was a direct democracy. I am pretty sure it isn't though. What does the commonwealth mean if it really is just a collection of former British colonies? If you are your own sovereign nation then why would you belong to some "commonwealth". I can understand the European Union for economic unity in a sense, but I have no clue what this commonwealth really means beyond being just symbolic. The US was a former colony, we decided a long time ago to do our own thing and look at the colonial days as a pretty shitty time in our history. Britian treated their colonies pretty shitty if you read the history, taxing someone and not letting them have representation in your government is bullshit in itself. |

It never passed. Quebec just refuses to have anything in english. Text books road signs pretty much everything. |

Well not surprising as when I was in vacation in Europe the only country that I visited that had people consistently unwilling to speak English even if you asked them if they could was France. The Germans and Swiss people that I met said the majority of the French can speak English, but some of them choose not to out of pure pride and sometimes out of spite for people that speak another language. Some French people will pretend to not know how to speak English just to get you to go away if you ask them, well that is what I was told in Germany and Switzerland. Also in France you always have to ask people if they can speak English first in French for them to even talk to you it seems lol. They just ignore you if you come up to them speaking English from what I heard (I just said Parlevue English? spelling?). There seemed to be a lot more Germans and Swiss (of course the Swiss seem to speak every European language) that speak English. |

Still won't make a generalization about a country, the way you have, and the way the rest of this thread has about Canada. Both are great countries, with their share of everything humantiy has to offer, the bad and the good. Your opinion has turned from valid to just slanderous. If at one point you could comment and sound constructive, you have ended up sounding like someone who is prejudicial. I frankly take personal offense to being labeled pathetic by you, someone I never interacted with on a personal level. You don't know me or my lifestyle, and I frankly don't think I have ever labeled you pathetic. If I took your mindset, I would think all Canadians were high and mighty egotestical know it alls. But I know they aren't. Sorry to seem combative toward you, your not someone I ever found particularly combative with me. But this thread's title is very disrespectful, to people you frankly don't even know either. Your invited to hang out with me and my friends and my family, and learn instead of hate. Its always fairly nice in Orlando. |

Well..when you get so far off the track from your God you use to love, things are bound to go wrong. Read Judges. At this point...we are just in damage control and w/o the Lord we will continue to fall. To quote Palahniuk "It's like trying to paint a house that is on fire." |

I don't think pathetic is a correct label for the U.S. You can say whatever you wanna say, but the US is indeed one of the if not "the" most successful county today. Some categories we lack and in others we are more then perfect. Saying all of america is pathetic is kinda like saying all the islamist are crazy human bombs; it isnt true at all. I have lots of negavite thoughts about this country, specially the government, but i have a lot more posite then negative. Don't even start me on how naive and inexperienced canada is with certain things they shouldn't be. |
