Level 99. Interesting. Also BLM might be able to cast Meteor lol.

I wonder how big Alexander and Odin will be as summons.

[ Summoner ] Two new long-awaited avatars, Alexander and Odin will be added. Both new avatars will appear and do the summoner’s bidding only when Astral Flow is in effect. Be aware, invoking one or the other will automatically initiate Astral Flow, the effect of which will end upon the avatar’s release. In accordance of their introduction, summoners will become able to use the “Astral Flow” job ability even when no avatars have been invoked.

Avatar: Alexander Uses “Perfect Defense” to reduce damage sustained by party members and prevent status ailments. - Damage reduction and resistance rate will vary with the summoner’s remaining MP.

Image
Avatar: Odin Uses “Zantetsuken” to vanquish all foes within the area of effect in one fell strike. - When used against NMs, will instead deal damage.
- Amount of damage dealt and accuracy will vary with the summoner’s remaining MP.
- More monsters within the area of effect will reduce accuracy.

I would love to be able to apply all that damn xp I spent on Merits towards leveling up to the new cap/caps. I wonder how insane the grind will be, and what kind of mobs will be available to xp on at such high levels.

Any of you guys coming back after the huge updates?

Also, anyone get a beta invite? (unless you're worried about NDA)

Yeah Colibri burn parties from level 75 to 99. Makes me sick just thinking about it.

My account is active and I'm playing from time to time. If the time it takes to level to 99 is anywhere near as brutal as it was to level to 75, there's no way it'll happen for me.

Wasn't it like 36k from 74-75? Would be funny to see 120k tnl. I don't really like the idea of a 99 cap after so many years, but it is a way to keep people playing, and that is the goal, for them.

It's currently 44k to go 75->76 and I guess most 75s will be at 43999/44k before the change is implemented. That would be like 23 days to level up if you have a 10k xp/h party for 4 1/2 hours every day and the xp to level doesn't increase at all above 75.

I just don't see how someone like me who would play a maximum of like 8 hours a week at like 4-5k xp/hr will hit 99 before FFXIV is out.

Yeah, I had my character pretty close to max xp at 75 usually, and then I did merits. 44k, is about 4 hours to level every day. That is not terrible, but it all depends on how they scale the levels. It could be 50k to level from 76 to 77, 55k 77 to 78, 60k 78 to 79, etc. The grind could be harsher than that.

They might reshape the 50-75 grind in accordance with the 75-99 exp and thus shorten the overall process. Remember, they've reshaped 50-70 before. This would make 99 the new appropriate final level and something that everyone, endgame or average, should aim for.

On the other hand 99 could end up being a sort of secondary achievement, like spending a fuckton of time in salvage, dynamis, or Einherjar and gaining the armor and titles associated with those activities. 99 could almost be an endgame activity in and of itself, creating a whole new game upon hitting it. Where the trip to 75 was made lighter a couple years ago with the lowering of the 50-70 exp burden, easy camps in ToA, campaign and level sync, 99 could be reserved as the last truly horrendous trek with only the most awful monsters available for post 80 exp (think flayers, frogs, kindred, baby hnm types, etc.) and few upgrades to armor and abilities beyond that.

Also note, the limit break quests haven't been revealed. These could involve similar requirements to relic or mythic weapons. They could involve gigantic amounts of gil and time on things that used to seem mundane.

When you put it that way, reminding me how awful it was to reach lv75 thf as main job, it really makes me just steer away from ffxi. The sad part is that you're most likely right on the money with those predictions. Unless they really just wanna make ffxi go out in a bang before ff14 is released.

I think they will only allow you to cap in certain areas, or they will keep subjobs at 37, or something else to make it not break the game so much. I heard someone saying they're going to gimp subjobs and make some of the spells and abilities unavailable/main job only. so kiss all your dreams of 99blm/49rdm with refresh and convert away lol

Picture showed a white mage using convert, but yeah I figure they'll let subs to 49 but bust up spells/abilities. Something like making /rdm refresh only give 1 per tick instead of 3, etc.

yeh there's gotta be some catch! having convert would be awesome for whm, smn, or blm. Also, for those of you that haven't played in a couple years the grind id way easier, they reduced the amount of exp to get to levels, created the level sync feature, and have the fields of valour guides.
