If materials are in scarce supply, ranking up a crafting class by taking part in local levequests is another viable option. On local levequests, all of the materials necessary to complete the requested synthesis can be obtained from designated NPCs. In addition, performing the synthesis does not require you to use any of the crystals or shards in your inventory. Local levequests can be undertaken by speaking to the following NPCs.

Be sure and check the rank of a local levequest when accepting it. If the listed rank is above your own, you will have a lower rate of success when synthesizing the requested item, making it more difficult to fulfill the conditions for completion. As it is necessary to travel to the designated area to turn in a levequest, remember to confirm the location, as well. Up to eight local levequests may be active at the same time.
* After undertaking eight local levequests, further local levequests will not be available until the next guildleve reset. Guildleves are reset every 36 hours (Earth time).

For some levequests, you must speak to the designated client NPC to obtain the synthesis materials. The location of the client NPC can be found by navigating to main menu » Journal, choosing Local Levequests from the first pulldown menu, and then selecting the Map option for the levequest in question.

First, select Requested Items from the synthesis interface.

This will display a list of your current levequests. Select the desired levequest to continue.

Lastly, select the Commence option, and the synthesis materials will automatically be placed in the appropriate slots.

Attributes themselves have little influence over the progression of an actual act of synthesis. The higher the stats on the tool being used to craft, however, the easier it will be for the Quality value of the synthesized item to increase. Though results vary from recipe to recipe, a higher Quality value means that a synthesis attempt is more likely to produce either a high-quality item,* or a high-quantity yield.

Also, as the primary and secondary tool stats are different for each Disciple of the Hand class (see list below), it is important to focus on those associated with the class that you most wish to develop.**

* High-quality item names end in a numeral, such as +1 or +2, and possess higher stats than their normal-quality counterparts.
** Allotted bonus points can be reset and reassigned from the Point Allotment interface.
