Anyone ever had something similar and know exactly what's wrong with my computer. I'm bringing it back at Future Shop tomorrow and need to know the exact problem before those douches format my hardrive and give it back without fixing anything.

I would say video card, but have no clue how to test it out (don't have another one to switch), and they already changed it a few months ago.

That could be a problem with the monitor =/
My last one did something similar just before it died on me.

I wouldn't be able to screenshot it if it was the monitor  What do you think?

That happened to me a couple months ago and it was cause of my video card. Replaced it and it's been fine ever since.

Looks like the video card. No need to format unless you think the video drivers are causing it and you can't clean them up.

Don't think it can be the monitor, because as far as I know a screenshot wouldn't be able to show any monitor distortion.

What kind of video card you had? Mine is an Radeon-9800 pro

And thanks. It will hopefully be faster if I tell them the problem this time

Yeah, pretty sure it's not the monitor. I already tested it on another monitor to make sure, and got the same problem.

I know I don't need to format, but the douche at Future Shop always think otherwise. When I went there last year, they formated without changing anything and told me my pc was fine. Two week after, I start getting corrupted file and random crash again. I go there a second time, they format again and remove my CD drive saying it was the cause of the crash (wtf).
I bring it back next day and they end up changing my video card and hard drive (took them 1½ fucking week). I thought it fixed the problem, but I started getting more crash after a while, and now video card start dying again.
I hope they are jsut gonna trash this pc and give me a new one if the old is discontinued.

I don't know, but it's better than your.

Seriously, I've no clue. Never touched to it since I got the computer, so, 8v I guess. Is there any place where you can see it without rebooting?

Not voltage silly, watts, wattage. 250W, 300W, 400W? Video cards can do some weird shit if they get irregularlly powered. I gather your smart enough to uninstall reinstall drivers and stuff, which is why I'm skipping that part and moving into hardware terrirtory.

Its the video card, or it could be the motherboard itself. You better hope its not the ladder.

Err  What's the easiest way to see the wattage than?

And yeah, I already uninstalled/reinstalled driver. I'm pretty sure it's related to the hardware, and I can't say I know much about that stuff

If you don't know the make/model, have the original parts receipt or box, then I believe most every power supply will list its voltages and wattage on a table on the side of the actual power supply.

I saw this exact thing once before and it was because the person's video card was overheating. The card was covered in so much crud that the fan wasn't spinning. I cleaned off the video card (and removed the dead mouse from behind the power supply  ) and it worked fine.

So try cleaning your case. Might not work but it's worth a shot : )

Hmm, do you need a video card to go in the Bios? I always thought basic component was taking care of those println and basic text, but I guess no now.

The case is open since that glitch started, and it's cleaned..kinda :)

I'm going to punch whoever placed the sticker on the power supply upside down. It's ****ing annoying to read. Anyway, it's a 300 watts I think, kinda low but it should be enough?

Like I said above, I doubt it's an over heating problem. My case is open atm and the fan work fine. Beside, I didn't run anything recently that would normally require more than a fraction of my video card or processor.

And if you can fix it don't buy a new one, I hate wasting money on something like that. Thats an expensive card too.

I had a Radeon 9700 Pro. I tried absolutely everything to fix it before caving in and just buying a new one.

I've had that happen before, and I can tell you it is most definately hardware related. No amount of reformatting, or reinstalling drivers is going to fix it. You need to replace the Video Card, as I had to. In fact I sent it back and got a replacement of the same card, worked fine afterwards.

I believe it's a permanent damage caused by overheating the card. Chances are it's not really your fault, just a poor cooling system on the card itself. (A lot of cards think they can get away with just a Heatsink and no fan, which is really bad if you're gonna have it running all day.)

As for PSU wattage, you shouldn't be running an AMD Athlon (and I'd assume the Intel equivalent) on anything less than 350W minimum. That's the minimum "stable" wattage as stated on the specification.

Leaving your case open is only a very short lived temporary solution to an overheating machine. In fact leaving the case open will hurt the machine more than it helps if it is really overheating. First of all running your computer without the case on will make it accumilate dust at like 10x the normal rate. And with the case open, there is no way for the front and back case fans to provide an an air flow, as there is no actual pressure inside the case to push it along. It'll just sort of linger at room temperature, which will slowly rise.

If you're having overheating problems, even though you have sufficient cooling inside the case, then chances are the problem is the case itself. The biggest problem is see is cases leaving no way for air to be sucked into the front of the case. They leave a slot on the front to fit a front case fan, but they dont actually leave any holes on the front of the case for that fan to suck any cool air into the case.

Having a bunch of big fans on the back of the case might seem like all you need to do but it isn't. You can't just pump the hot air out of the case, you gotta make sure there is some cool air returning into the case to replace the hot air. Otherwise what is replacing the hot air? More hot air.

And the Start button is too big with 8 letters.
