I'm not taking sides or anything but I just wanted to state an observation. Have any of you noticed that the black people who posted on this thread refer to themselves as black and not African American? Even these two completely non harmful words can make a black person feel segregated. I'm called American not European American. I started taking notice of little things like this after having a long discussion with a black co-worker.

I know some of you live in Canada. Are blacks referred to as African Canadians in Canada?

The fact is I'm not black and I'm not gay. Though I have friends that are black and some that are gay, and I've been to the ghetto(almost got my ass kicked), and my wife and I have been to a gay bar with friends(I got drinks bought for me and she had to pay\:D/) I'm not even gonna pretend I know what it's like to walk in either of their shoes.

So in closing I'd like to say. Fuck the midgets those little evil bastards!

You're right, whites do refer to themselver as american. I think its stupid that blacks are called african american when we've been in america just as long as the europeans have.

My black friend and i were arguing with our white friends about this the other day at lunch. My black friend brought up a point that whites like to be considered whats normal, and have everyone be named something different.

Whites for one are American. (normal or default)
Blacks get fucked because we're african american.
Asians who move over here are well, Asian americans.

white people never labeled black men as african americans. and im a white guy, but you can call me whatever you like. im white, american, and caucasain. one thing youre failing to see is its not a black vs white thing anymore. its a rich vs poor thing. a lot of black people are located in low class settings, they arent the only ones there theyre just the majority.

gay people dont choose to be gay. to them their affinity to the same sex is like our affinity to the opposite sex. if someone told you to fuck a guy you wouldnt be aroused at all to the idea, same goes for a gay man.

i wasnt saying you cant rage against the machine, i was stating things that other people will see when issues like this are brought about. if you want to change something first you need to start with yourself, then move onto things close to you. i was merely stating if you hear the n word from anyone you are consistant with your response. it builds a strong foundation of credability towards your cause.

as for the reference to the children saying the black man driving the nice car was a basketball player or whatever. that is a positive cultural steriotype, black men dominate the world of sports. the fact that a young child mentions anything positive states something is headed in the right direction. instead of spinning it into the negative you can reinforce the positive. shit 15 years ago or more a child would have prolly only said drug dealer, but that is slowly fading from the cultural steriotype. progress is always slow, it gets phased out little by little over generations.

as a 17 year old you have many many more role models to look up to. the mere fact that you dont even use the N word as a black male in todays society is saying progress is happening.

when a person tells me something offends them, i dont do it. when the same person does the same thing that offends them, i think theyre full of shit and dont respect their false offense. racism isnt only limited to white people, and just because a group was oppressed doesnt mean they have the right to do what was done to them. eye for an eye only makes us all blind.
