I need to alter a few settings with regards to my system BIOS and video card. (Specifically, I need to disable VGA Snooping). Every site I see just says "go to the BIOS and disable it". Well, if I hit F2 as my computer boots to go to my BIOS, I just get an extremely limited menu where I can alter the system date, battery options, some passwords, and a few other things. Nothing advanced, nothing directly related to a video card, nothing. I downloaded the most up to date FlashBIOS from the Dell site...what do I need to do? And don't make fun of me. I'm not good with this stuff. ; ;

F2 sounds like a Dell...I wouldn't expect much as far as user configurable settings in BIOS. They like to dumb down things to keep people from blowing shit up and blaming Dell. Don't think you're stupid because you can't find it - It's probably just not there. lol

Are you trying to run a decoder or something? I'll try to see if I can find any info on Dell stuff for you.

Open up your command prompt and type C:, hit enter, then type format, hit enter again. :P

Ouch...

Well. I was a bit unpleased with my FFXI performance lately, so I downloaded SiSoft Sandra's benchmarking and analysis tool. Most of the things it said were minor, but it said I have a rare option called VGA Snooping enabled, which is only needed in ridiculously rare circumstances, that is seriously reducing the performance of my video card. If I'm unable to alter this directly, is it possible to download a Mobility Radeon 9700 BIOS file and rewrite it over my current BIOS using one of the rewriting utilities found on the web? Is this exceedingly dangerous? Who should I trust for a good file?

ff isn't a very demanding game to run, and a mobility radeon 9700 is plenty more than enough to run it. You probably had other things hindering it from performing well.

I know. I recall when I first got this laptop, it ran FFXI fine. Over the holiday break I upgraded my main memory to 1280 MB, and reinstalled Windows (on my own this time, without all the bullshit Dell apps). I downloaded the Omega Drivers, too. For some reason, I can't break a 1600 on the hi-res FFXI Benchmark, which is really bad. I couldn't figure out why this was so, so I downloaded SiSoft Sandra, and the only major thing it's telling me is this VGA Snooping stuff. Maybe it was disabled before I reinstalled Windows, I don't know. In any case, I need to disable it, the Dell BIOS suck, and I don't know what to do.

omega drivers ? are you using other drivers to run your card? You should be only using the driver that are in ati's web site

The Omega Drivers are actually better than ATI's official drivers, and don't cause this problem...my three roommates also use them, and don't have VGA Snooping enabled. Regardless, I should be able to change the settings of my card...(sigh) Anyone?
