So like I've been doing this album for a minute, but I've also started a record label as well. I started looking at web design and shit and thought ahhh cool, maybe I can establish a bit of e-commerce and stuff for my album release which will be in 1st quarter 2007. WRONG!!! These fancy ass websites are no laughing matter, the AFI website I listed below some guy said would cost anywhere from 10 to 15 thousand dollars to do. I was like "what ya got for 500 bucks?" and he cut his phone conversation short with me lol. So anyway tell me what you guys think? I'm looking for someone that knows their shit in web design to kind of price quote the sights I listed, to me they just look cool (I know shit about web design). I mean I just wanna sell an album online and have a decent sight for next year, anyone know a site they could list that that could do the job for under $2,500. Music Biz sucks, everything is out of pocket ; ;

IS THIS REALLY WORTH 15 GRAND?

I like their use of Flash opening and how their sight is smoothly streamlined with their myspace websight at myspace.com (I am interested in this), I also like how their buttons are structured at the top and how they even have a forum page. Their online store is also very nicely structured, can you guys implement something like this?

HOW MUCH WOULD THIS COST?

I like the simplicity of this sight, it's nice and easy to navigate.

what about this one?

Although the print is a bit too small I do like the graphic design here.

I've just recently tried designing my own site, and I've found its no walk in the park. But i'm also learning as I go. I only know the graphic design side of it.

I don't know about 15k, thats pretty steep... But I bet a well designed site that that would take him a couple months to get working just right.

if you justw ant a simple html site 500 bucks seems decent assuming you're going tot ake over the upkeep after the initial designa nd handle your own updates, once you start getting into things like flash, e-commerce and needing a host and domain name things become a lot more expensive.

fyi u can make an amazing site if you do your own flash stuff. I took me about a month to really figure flash out and its rather easy. For the e-com part i would suggest having someone do it.

Check out http://www.merchdirect.com/mainpage/
Im not sure about prices but i see them on alot of smaller band sites.

html/dhtml/css/javascript/flash/php and mysql are very easy to learn,
plus there are tons of tutorials and so much more for free online.
Get a copy of dreamweaver and your good to go.

Yes, they are all easy to learn... Unfortunately an even bigger part of web design, though, is presentation. That's the actual hard part. Coming up with a neat design that doesn't completely bombard the senses, but does provide a nice feel for appearance and navigation.

I can program until the cows come home, but I suck at graphic design - thus I'll never be able to make real neat websites. It's a pity.
