Actually, Canadians have two official languages: English and French.

Yet most Canadians don't speak both. Thus one of them is probably a second language.

this kind of disturbed me:
i was playing chess with a 25 year old from Egypt named Mahmmoud
"Where are you from?" he asked.
"From USA but in Barbados at the moment," I replied.
..a few minutes later..
"Do you hate Arabs?"

Kailyn actually has a family, that makes his standings on American Values a step above most, imo.

And personally, I take his Avatar to mean he's a Conan O'Brian fan...which also puts him a step above most.

I think it is worth mentioning that a woman's right to choose extends beyond her right to terminate her pregnancy, and that Bush has had his hand in making it more difficult to access family planning information and contraception.

Kailyn is a she, not a he.

Second, I love Conan too! Does that make me a step above the rest?

Third, I have a family. I have a mother, a father, a sister, grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

Giving birth does not make you an expert of family values. Many people who give birth do not have family values....explaining child abuse and neglect and other unfortunate problems.

Example: http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Music/1 ... index.html

Yes Britney, next year you will be mature enough to have babies *cries for her future children*

Besides, many people that chose not to have children have a strong sense of family values: they realize that starting a family of one's own is a huge responsibility, and respect that enough to not have children if they are not up to the responsibility.

Having a family doesn't make your opinions "above" someone else's

How exactly are Chuck Norris and Conan O'Brien connected?

I didn't open the insult door. You don't seriously think calling me naive was some sort of compliment do you?

I'll try again.

A litmus test with respect to justices would be one in which you question the judges positions on the issues, and then choose or do not choose them based on their position on the issues.

Roe vs. Wade is an issue.

Therefore, if one says they will not choose a judge based on a litmus test, then they are saying they will not choose a judge based on their opinion of Roe vs. Wade.

Bush in effect said he would not gauge a judges position on Roe vs. Wade as a criteria in his choice of judge.

He could have more specifically addressed it by saying he would not choose a judge based on their Roe vs. Wade opinion, but by saying he would not choose them based on a litmus test, he also included a myriad of other issues by which justices are chosen, including Roe vs. Wade.

Now as to the specificity of the phrase "like to overturn", neither candidate voiced their personal opinions on the matter. Kerry, nor Bush stated what their personal feelings were on the issue, and quite honestly I don't feel it's relevant to the discussion, what is relevant is whom they will choose that will interpret the constitution. It's fairly obvious in both their cases that they would both "like" a woman not to have an abortion, Kerry because he is a Catholic, and Bush because he is Pro-Life.

I would personally "like" women not to have abortions, instead choosing adoption as an option were available and not offensive to the woman (In the case of a rape I can easily understand), but I am pro-choice in that I believe it is ultimately their decision to make.

Quote:
Secondly, is a person's right to bodily integrity not included in your constitution? A person's right to decide how their body is used is not covered in your constitution?? So you can force a person to use their body in a way that they do not want to (in this case, for pregnancy)? I think that this is a constitutional matter and that judges have a responsibility to protect a woman's right to bodily integrity.

Can you commit suicide on Canada? You can't here. That certainly would fall within the realm of "bodily integrity" would it not? Unfortunately the right of a person to do what they want with themselves is not specifically addressed in our constitution, and touching on abortion also involves at some point the life of another human being. Whether that life begins at the point of conception or when the child is born, or perhaps somewhere in between is of course a matter for philosophical, scientific and religious debate. In fact that issue is relatively vague in our constitution. The relevant portions cited in Roe v. Wade were personal privacy and due process, neither or which directly address the issue, but taken in conjunction provide a reasonably solid ground.

I understand you have an older family, but you don't get a protective sense for those who protect you. The child doesn't determine the values upon which his/her families act(not that I'm calling you a child, but you're not the head of that particular family).

Also, I got to a catholic school...I'm one of the handful of pro-choice students. Family planning is still a completely destructive organization that supports lying and is a monopoly that should be destroyed by our government because of that.

Bush stopped funding a government supported monopoly. There's nothing wrong with that.

Nobody "likes" abortion. Unfortunately, George Bush does not support the types of initiatives that prevent unwanted pregnancy - for example, comprehensive sexual education and access to emergency contraception.

Anyways, my initial point was that George Bush was not asked about a litmus test. It was not the question.

Dinav, you're pro-choice??? I had no idea!

Bush is creating a monopoly out of abstinance only education, which is ineffective to say the least (and dangerous to say the most).

I also went to a Catholic highschool. Since I graduated, three girls I knew have given birth (and they were not married). Abstinance only education does not keep people from having sex. Instead, these teenagers have no knowledge on how to engage in safe sex. Thus, the pregnancies.
