I had a question concerning the unwritten rules of HNM camping ettiquette. I have only been high enough level-wise to start camping HNM's in the past couple weeks. I know that there was a big fuss over one LS "stealing" Simurge or whatever. Not looking to rehash that whole course of events because I was not there, and I'm sure it has been beaten into the ground already. But obviously, there is a general concensus that this conduct is not good form.

So my question is: what are all of these unwritten rules? I would kind of like to know, so I don't break them, and so when I see them being broken I can say something.

What about this example? Let's say that LS "A" and LS "B" are camping... oh let's say Bune. Would it follow proper form and ettiquette for LS "B" to pull regular mobs to the middle of the Bune camping area and Call for help? (The purpose of this tactic is to cause those spamming for a pull to waste it on the regular mob, or to make them quit spamming until the regular mob is dead.) This is a tactic that is common among the gilsellers for normal NM's, so I was just wondering if this is considered ok for HNM camping.

So what does everyone think about this particular case, and the larger question in general? Was this tactic ok, and what unwritten rules exist for HNM camping? As I said, I have only been doing this for a couple weeks now, so I don't know.

#1 Rule: The most important of all, if Kaylia is camping against you, just go away
#2 Don't grab an NM if it turn yellow after the first provoke, unless of course they wiped
#3 Don't train aggro or link on them
That all what I can think

I don't really think releasing monster or calling for help is a bad thing, as long it's not for mpking

- don't Steal. Stealing being Grabing it when it goes unclaimed while a LS is fighting it. Wait till they wipe or at least till it look hope less. Ig not sure /tell them and ask if it's ok if u spamm after so and so dies? we have done that before

- Raise their Dead after they wipe shows good Charter

- yeah calling for help and stuff is annoying but not a big Deal.

- Acuseing ppl of botting is a no no

- Casting cure on ppl so they target you is a no no.

- Trash talking.

those are some of the bigger one.

my rule for 24-hr spawns is simple: if your group gets claim on the mob for 3 consecutive days your group gets mpk'd that 3rd day for whoring...

It would be nice if RARE/EX items camps went to the group that setup camp first... but that's just a dream of mine. I also wished that SE would alter the /sea all feature.... like if you had /anon on u would not show up on /sea all.

I think I better elaborate on what I mean. I believe there are three types of 24-hr spawns: ones that appear out of nowhere, ones that appear from placeholders, and ones that appear after a condition is met.

For ones that appear out of nowhere (Behemoth, Fafnir, etc.), I might let the same group win claim 2-3 times a week. 4th day is really pushing it though.

Ones that appear from placeholders (Amikiri, Za'Dha Adamantking, Orcish Overlord, etc.), I would defer to the group there trying to spawn the NM. I might let the same group try 2-3 times a week. Once again, 4th day is really pushing it though.

Finally, for the ones that appear after a condition is met (Ungur, etc.) I would defer to the group there trying to spawn. Same thing again, I might let the same group try 2-3 times a week. 4th day is really pushing it though...

No one deserves to be MPK'd, but with the population of high lvl players growing larger by the day players must learn to respect each other and have some set of rules to distinguish them from the dirty lowbie NM whores camping Simurgh, Roc, Serket, Cassie, etc.

Sure thing Volrath...5 more lvls on my NIN and I'll be unstoppable [-X

But in all seriousness though has anyone tried reasoning with those other players accused of whoring those NMs? Is kfc really that bad? Maybe one of their LS members can come here and explain their behavior to clear things up...

nah its impossible, they are on for HNM camp no matter what time of day it is where they live, you try to reason and they claim we arent good enough to win pull its our fault and that they still need items for their 9th job that they play once a month blah blah.

1. Don't lag people out (bar-aga spells bard songs rampart warcy etc.)
2. Don't train things that will aggroe the people fighting HNMs.
3. Return HNM if you get claim when something weird on server happens...lag or w/e.
4. If you get a drop that is rare/ex and someone else in another pt needs it invite them and let them lot it. (considering no one in your pt has)
5. After HNM is dead raise the dead people.
6. If you get wiped and other people take it don't curse at them.
7. Don't spam tells i think thats all

I've talked to members of KFC about them whoring the HNMs and they always say the same thing about "needing" something from it and that it wouldn't be fair to them if they backed off and let us have the king version once every couple of months.

If I had FRAPs I would have recorded the conversation I've had with them. Basically they don't understand that I'm more pissed off about them wasting my friends' time than them getting items that they don't even need. Their mentality is that if you're playing FFXI, you're playing it to get items for yourself and not to have fun doing other things with friends that don't involve sitting in one spot for three hours at a time then moving to a different area directly afterwards to do the same thing until all the camps are over which means it's time to go back to sleep until the next day.

Edit: Just a FYI, in EQ we had a system with "HNMs" where high level guilds would take turns at killing them when they were due to pop. The system actually worked and made everyone happy since we all got a fair chance at end-game material. It's a shame that this would never work in FFXI; although I'm pretty sure we could work such a system out between NA linkshells that want to hunt certain HNMs, I doubt linkshells like KFC would go along with it.

If you think about it, HNM camping etiquette is fucked up in this game. If someone else gets the claim, you stand around and hope that they wipe and don't help them at all; so being a vulture is okay but getting pissed at a LS for constantly getting the same HNMs and preventing anyone else from doing so isn't.

Seriously, this game would be more fun if it was like the "no rules" of WoW PvP servers, where if the Alliance/Horde is pissing you off you can do anything you want to them and they can't go crying to a GM.

yeah when your dealing with people who have superior ping and have the advantage getting initial claim its kinda bullshit following there rules that you cant make claim on it after the initial pop heh, all i can say is i hope sea offers alot of king loot thats obtainable in a more sky like manner. but who knows maybe if sky offered this loot getting pop item mobs would be just as big a pain in the ass as getting kings is.

WoW handles this much better....you can only fight and kill an HNM once every 7 days.

Oh, and no one has been able to do it yet (well a korean guild claims they have, and have a SS but it's still being looked into), because the difficulty is much higher than that of FFXI HNMs(think BCNM HNMs).

But they drop 3 AF2s apparently hehe.
