I really wouldnt be shocked if a new Avatar was availible in the next expansion. My question is this....

How fair would it be for Summoners to get a new Avatar? What kind of avatar would make it fair if it wasnt? Or what change to what job would you make insted?

SMN need something. Considering they offer nothing to a party really, and just slow down an EXP group. It sucks playing a 37 WHM in a 75 group. I wouldn't mind if they took away some of the soloablity and dmg on HNM if they just made them useful in normal circumstances. lol

I think Pheonix would be a nice summon. Pheonix could be what Carbuncle should have been imo haha. Group ReRaise II, Raise II, New better Magic resist buffs (perhaps a -DMG%) that last the same as Protect or Shell.

I think every avatar should have a better Barelement spell than WHM that wouldnt stack with anything other than Carols.

Bloodpacts should be lowered to like 30 seconds. For the current MP cost and the duration of most buffs I dont think 1minute is fair. I mean half the buffs last like 20 seconds and are hardly and use. Seriously, stuff like Crimson Howl or whatever it is that Ifrit uses is almost totally usless. There are many other buffs like that too.

A summoner should be totally usless alone. Its the Avatars and the spells the uses that make it so great. The problem is that 80% of the blood pacts are garbage.
Avatars need more unique stuff. New spells. Not random spells other jobs get.

i dont think aerial armour or earthen ward is useless, actually alot of my BP's seem to be working just fine all i wish they did was lower the BP timer to like 20,30,40 secs and lower the mp cost of the avatar when its out. meh i've been lucky and not had to main heal as smn yet :D (yey for making pts)

but for a new smn i want to see siren and have her use her singing or w/e to enhance the pt into something that everyone wants or likes, hmm maybe mp regen lol

I don't think a new avatar would be "Unfair"..more like.. Un needed, I guess is a better term.

This is how i've always seen summoner:

You work your butt through the lower levels (( especially back when me vol darkrikku shui crim ect were all lvlng smn and the big "lower lvl BP damage " update had not taken place yet)) and your reward is hitting 70. Major damage, *usefulness* ect ect. I think they just tried to even out the job way back then, IE nerfing predator claws but making lower lvl BPs stronger.

I do not at all think they should take away the summoner's soloability. UNLESS they made avatars a sh** load stronger. I pride myself in being able to solo alot of the things I want/need to as smn without having to bug anyone for help about it.

Now ofcourse the summoners in other games couldnt solo and were never unaccompanied... But thats because their summons were ridiculously strong compared to ffxi summons.

If SE had made ffxi avatars as strong as in other games, All other jobs would be useless. (( Unless I guess they made avatars a " Summon, does its thing, and leaves" like in all ffs but 10, but that won't happen ))

Thats why summoner is the way it is, and bottom line I really don't think it needs any changing. I wouldn't mind new BPs or new avatars if they could balance things out. I think alot of other jobs could use some cool updates first, though. I'm still waiting for SE to give DRGs a Vouvire (( Spelling? )) model Wyvern lol

lol, DRG's Wyvern should grow as they level up. . . considering they stay roughly the same size doesn't really show any physical improvement of the Wyvern itself. I can understand why they wouldn't though, considering it would probably lag things a little more.

I just think they should give Summoner some abilities to make them more useful as far as a party setting is concerned, like Yarr mentioned. Not that they aren't useful, they are pretty useful in a good number of situations (like when you have a NIN tank, Stoneskin ftw!) ^_^; I just wish summoners were able to have like a few spells for the job itself aside from the jug pet like summons, and the few avatars they have.

It depend what they give to other job. If they have a new JA for everyone, go ahead and give summoner a new toy, but I think it's stupid to concentrate on a particular job when everyone will be left out.

Pheonix will probably be more involved in the story like Diabolos then with SMN.

There will be "a few" new summons in the next expansion.

More then 1, less then 5 is all I can say.

Tobatobu wants Bahamut.

RAWR!

-10 Seconds to Bloodpact time would be nice too. Only being able to activate your Avatar twice a fight is rather depressing.

wouldnt be unfair to give smn more summons, cause the job would still suck without other tweaks to things like blood pact timer, outranging, etc

Changes to Ballista

The following changes and additions to Ballista are scheduled for the October version update.

-The effective range of powers accessible through the summoner ability "Blood Pact" will be extended. Certain powers will not be affected.
-The duration of the resistance effect to the bard song "Lullaby" will be increased.
-The number of Ballista Points required to reserve "Diorama Abdhaljs - Ghelsba" will be reduced from 200 to 100.
-The maximum number of Ballista Points that a player can have will be increased from 1000 to 2000.
-It will be possible to set "Diorama Abdhaljs - Ghelsba" to Ballista Royale rules.

Expect to see these and other improvements made to everyone's favorite Conflict event soon!

hmmmmmmm

Hahahaha finally SE stops being retarded. I quit ballista because of people simply running away from my bloodpacts.

Now you can bloodpact someone for 40% of their HP and have to run away for a minute while your timer recharges. Or get your pet slept and die before resummoning haha.

I dont think they really need a new summon. If anything give them a variation of RaiseII and that's good enough. It's kinda crappy having a raise 1 at lvl 75 if something goes wrong or you die by lag. Phoenix would suit that purpose well but he would have to just be a healing avatar I think. Give reraise to the pt and such like hymnus.

I don't think it would be unfair to add some new Avatars. However, they still need to tweak the BP timer, and range thing. If a BLM can go from one spell to the other, then a SMN should be able to go from one Avatar to the other. If I wanna blow all my MP like that, then I should be able to. Even my BP timer is not a minute anymore, it should be more like 30secs. I'm all for some new Avatars tho!

actually I never used a bloodpact unless 1. I was sure it would 1 shot the enemy, or 2. I had someone near me protecting me. lol Predator claws usually did 900-1k without resist, wich is plenty to one shot any mage or a weak ranger or nin. I never dared mess with monks or paladins though, lol. Stoneskin and blink suck ass though, they absorb all bloodpact damage lol
