Changes to Merit Points

The maximum number of merit points a player may use in each adjustable status category will be increased in the next version update!

The maximum number of usable merit points will increase in all categories in the following manner.

Combo total and sub-categories:
HP/MP
Attributes
Combat skills
Magic skills
Others

Combo total only:
Individual job categories

With this adjustment, players may reach their maximum potential possible with the Chains of Promathia expansion disc.

Furthermore, the FINAL FANTASY XI development team is already working to expand the merit point system for "Treasures of Aht Urhgan." Adjustments to make new magic spells and abilities available through the use of merit points are planned for the new expansion disc.

More information will be released on the FINAL FANTASY XI main page as it is made available.

gonna need a combat skill section cap of 51279812187 to max axe, great axe, sword, katana, great katana.

Hopefully people can merit stuff like sneak attack/trick attack, zerk/aggressor better now too.

Ah, I'm glad they introduced merited spells/abilities. As in an interview not too long ago when it was suggested they brushed it off as being too everquesty.

fucking J haha. Anyways I am kinda skeptical on the merit point system to learn new spells and such with the new expansion. I guess we have to wait and see what lies in store for that

theyre gonna add something like;

9 merits to get Thunder 5

then when you goto use it you need to sub war, wear all af1, and the spell auto uses your provoke /ja right before you cast it

Yeah for spells it will probably take a retarded amount of merits since I did 9 merits for my 4th upgrade in CHR.. something like another tier of threnody, massacre elegy, minuet V, etc would easily cost 9 merits. I bet there is at least one or two new spells/songs for each job that is actually worthwhile and the rest are just fluff. Tier V nukes would be hilarious though as would tier 2 ancient magic. Who knows what they might give WHM? SMN should get the final blood pacts maybe? NIN get ni line of elemental ninjitsu or some san ninjitsu? Some interesting possibilities that is for sure.

I really think i'm going to love this lol, i actually really like the idea of merits for new spells. would also be really nice if SE added specific quests with rewards being rare/ex scrolls :)

they should give whm some form of: raisega, reraisega, blinkga, and/or stoneskinga. Or just some ability that allows you to make these ga... like divine veil only not.

Alot of folks believe smn will get the prime bps we were never given like grand fall etc. These would be especially useful imo if they could open/close 3rd lvl SCs. Otherwise, I'd imagine that the lvl 70 bps will still own them as far as overall damage output. Doubt they will go as far as having a new avatar you have to merit for, however I do believe we will see a new avatar soon if not several. of course, SE are the kings of getting you excited about something and then having it not nearly be as cool as you had hoped once you finally get it in the game, my suspsicion is that any new avatar(s) they add will be pretty dissapointing, but I'm still pretty hopeful regardless.. I guess any addition is better than nothing.

EDIT: just thougth of some more to add: It would be cool if they gave rdms Refresh II (5 a tick), brds Ballad III (3 a tick), and maybe gave smns or whms a form of refresh. 5 a tick up from 3 wouldn't be such a powerful addition if you think of how much +mp gear there is available now, and anyone who has 1200+ mp w/o food knows how goddamn long it takes to heal a full mp bar from like < 100 (even with dark staff, errant, cookies, ballad, AND refresh)

Well I know when that could come in handy. . . a 3 Galka KRT party. :x they're the monks of course. . . Cure 5 probably would do about half their HP >_> lol.

Ballad III would be retarded.. since the relic horn is already +2 to ballad.. that would make a grand total of 9 MP a tick available (3+2 + 2+2). Relic horn is already overpowered doubt SE would do any more. Refresh II would be funny but I don't see it being 6 MP a tick. Going to take some careful planning to not horribly ruin the already not balanced nature of this game. Could really fuck the game up balance wise and make some fights way easier than they should be.

it would be pretty sweet if our avatars could do hi lvl magic nukes (cuz even though we have tier IV spells, everyone knows they're damage is about 1/8 the potency of blm's tier IV spells) if we could magic burst and put up the same numbers as the lvl 70 bps (w/o astral flow) that'd be interesting. I think SE is trying to steer our job more towards a solo class tho, as opposed to competeting with blms for best DD mage spot. However, anything's possible.. and yes meriting -perp cost would rule.. I've been waiting patiently for a time where I can run around with fenny out for free instead of buncles.

lol i really hope we get Tier4 spells,whm will likely get Banishga 3(not to cool but meh),smn will likely get phoenix(attohwa chasm MTN. speaks of it..kinda,and if it is phoenix RR @ lvl 30 RR2 @ 60 RR3 @ 75 :D,fast cast meriting-i wish although id like more convert ; ;,THF mostlikey SATA timing down,ninja...please no Utsusemi:san...then they can claim anything solo and hold it off til ls or w/e gets there,brd......great ballad3 will be way to overpowering-pld flash2 and holy2? flash 2 would be killer for pld/nin kinda like a mini utsu + lotsa hate,drg.....another jump,or maybe enhance wyvern breath to cure V or w/e-all i can really think of at the moment

that'd be pretty nice. naw, not nice, AWESOME. only thing I'd see people whining about would be PLD/NINs with FlashII and Utsusemi: Ni, they'd nearly never get hit, but then you remember that PLD has shit for Evasion skill and they'd still end up getting hit

new DRG ability Jump-Barrage please. i can't think of anything else lol. ooh maybe something like warcry/rampart but to raise accuracy of the party.

new warrior ability will probably something like the opposite of aggressor, raise evasion, lower accuracy. i've always wondered why it's not an ability already.
