I feel like I'm playing a game of "Questions Only" here. Look, reiterating what someone else says and then constantly putting it down for while no one else agrees with you just proves to be a ridiculous, pointless debate. Fine, Kaylia doesn't understand why this issue is important to our earth. That's okay...but seriously...is it worth going on for 4 pages simply "arguing for the sake of arguing"? Thank you for trying to be a devil's advocate, but I don't think so.
And you, are sure you understand the importance? The only argument you brough in that thread was that it would be cool for aliens from another planet (or another sentient species), to have a complete list of every living species on our planet if we blow up or something.
The other argument you mentioned was the possibility of finding new cure for diseases, but that alone indicate you don't know much about the way they make medicine. Most of the of the new molecules used for medecine are made in laboratory based on previous data instead of a lucky find on a random animal. It's true there is still interesting bacteries and proteins out there, but it's not like we studied more than a fraction of the global population. Even if we get a few more species to add to our database, it means pratically nothing on the big picture.
And do you really think I'm putting other people down? You should try rereading your posts or Yarr's posts. If you think I'm the only one doing it, you're terribly wrong.
I dunno why you think I'm playing the devil advocate just because I'm not defending science like someone would defend a religion. This discovery is simply an observation, without any analysis, result or anything following it. The media make it sound big, but it has very little impact, if any, on the developpement of other science. Biology already passed that point, and those new species will just reconfirm what we already knew.
Like I said earlier, it's like rediscovering Newton's physics, when you have relativity, quantum physics and string physics.

Oh, and bias as boyfriend/girlfriend has nothing to do with it, thank you very much. I don't think that comment has any validity and shouldn't have been said.
It does in a way. A group of people who agree together will rarely try to see the situation from a different point of view. Why would you rethink your position when you agree with people close to you? Why would anyone try to change his opinion after being praised on his intelligence?
You didn't play FFXI, but just take a fight between two Linkshell. People will almost always agree and defend their close friend, even when they are in the wrong. Now, I'm not saying you two would have a different opinion, but the fact you're together pratically kill any chance you try to see the situation from a different angle.
