Ironically i'm actually interested to know your thoughts
on the world cup; as to who you think will win and why.

I'm not much of a soccer person myself, but when it comes
to a sport of which i grew up playing and is no less then
in my bloodline's i can't help myself not to be extremely
excited about this upcomming event.

I'm favoring my home country Brazil for two reasons.

  1. Obviously because i'm from Brazil; proud to be one when it
    comes to soccer.
  2. Brazil has a "Star's" Team.

I don't think Brazil will take the trophy home; not because of
lack of skills, but because of over-confidence.

A few Teams Brazil has to watch out for: In order, most dangerous first:

  1. Englang
  2. Germany
  3. Argentina
  4. Croatia

But who knows, its hard to predict these games.

So, what do you think?

I agree 100% with your assessment of the top five teams, but oviously I think england will walk away with the trophy. Ideally I'd like us to play Germany or Argentina in the final, because those are the two teams we have the biggest scores to settle with.

With Wayne Rooney seemingly fit now, I think we will storm through the group stages undefeated, our last warm up watch before the world cup we demolished the opposition 6-0, although perhaps you might argue that Jamacia aren't the strongest team in the world.

Terry, Gerrard, Beckham, Crouch, Owen & Rooney are a fantastic group of players who will terrorise the opposition

Like you I'm not that interested in soccer, but I do care a lot and get exited about the world cup, the climate will suit Englands players much better this time than in Japan, Germany is pretty similar to England.

Although one thing I'm really angry about is politically correct mfers going round trying to ban not only some of the best terrace songs (namely "The Great Escape", - because they have vague connections to WW2 but also now the flag of St George on the grounds its offensive to Muslims wtf, I've seen muslims themselves parading it round on tatoos/clothes/flags out their car windows in support of the football team

Statistically, i don't think England will be the problem.

Brazil - England
11 Played 11
5 Won 1
5 Drawn 5
1 Lost 5
14 Goals 8

My worry is Argentina to be honest.

Brazil - Argentina
26 Played 26
11 Won 6
9 Drawn 9
6 Lost 11
43 Goals 32

Very good players on both sides of either teams.

I've never paid much attentention to stats like that, games played 5-10 years ago have no bearing at all on who will win next week. Yes you can say Brazil have always had a good team, and England have always had a somewhat medium team but teams change according to the players and this year I think Englands players are amongst the best they've ever produced.

Out of the "top 5" we agree on tho, I would say Brazil would be the team i want to win if England don't just because it's my patriotic duty to hate Germany and Argentina (football wise, leave the Falklands out of this!)

And lol, sky news is showing live footage of the out side of the hospital where Wayne Rooney is having his scan on the broken metatarsil done, instead of covering Tsunami warnings and bombs in jerusalem.

Fuck, I KNEW Mandos would be the first person to reply to this lol. Crazy Brits.

I want Germany to win. I don't know anything about soccer (I'm American and I'll call it what I like, Rumsfeld 4 King) but Germany is awesome anyways. My friend is actually going to Germany to watch this thing as I hear. He's rich. Really goddamn rich.

Notice how 60% of the stats in the stadium are taken up by people in shirts/ties sponsors who probably don't even give a shit about the game. whereas the home fans only get 12k tickets, away get 1/3 of that.

Dissapointing performence by England. 3 points thats all that matters but with that kind of game they wont make it far. Although yesterday we did have the worst referee I've ever seen, i mean what kind of ref disciplines a keeper for holding the ball for more than 6 seconds and why did he not let the players get drinks? doesn't he know that us english are not used to that kind of heat?!? We need to kick that big long streak of piss out the the squad a.k.a Peter Crouch and put Rooney in.

I grew up playing soccer with a bunch of Argentinians, so naturally I'm a big fan. They did look sloppy at times vs Ivory Coast, but overall I think they have a great team.

A team I think people really need to look out for is Mexico. If they move the ball well (which they've shown they can do), I believe they're one of the top 5 teams in the world, and they have an excellent goalie is Oswaldo Sanchez.

Iran were doing pretty good against them until that mistake gifted Mexico a goal, then they just seemed to give up and let the Sombreros walk all over them.

USA vs Iran would be a fun match :D

USA vs CHE
0 - 3

Both good teams, but i think the US needs a lot more team play
to succeed. Experience > Skill. Team play > Solo play.

I was expecting more of a neven match, but the checks are pretty good!

That's about what I expected 2bh, any time I've seen the US play I got the opinion that they arent in the same league as most other big teams.

Plus the Czech Republic are actually ranked I think 2nd in the rankings, not that that says too much, but they are recognized as a good time that came to prominence quite recently.
