Not sure exactly what's wrong but here is the setup

X850 XT with a widescreen LCD w/ DVI
all the latest driver

will have temperature problem (card over heat) without clocking anything if I play full screen things. (FFXI, F.E.A.R, basically any game)

but no problem if I run it with windower or anything that is not changing my resolution.

is it b/c of the card not supporting the widescreen resolution? or is there something else that I am missing?

I havent tried a 4:3 LCD/CRT yet but that's my next step.

as i remember windower does lower the resolution of the game. Unless you yourself changed the values back to what you had the game on normal settings without the windower.

make sure the fan is working.

I bought an x850 and the fan was dead. I had a problem with it crashing all the time and it ended up being a dead fan. I had to get a new card.

Did they replace it for free? ATI fucked us over huge a long time ago on a faulty Rage card lol. I'm wondering if they still do that

nah I mean I have a 1680x1060 resolution and if I use windower it will be a window with 1024x768 on the deaktop but if I use full screen it will still be 1024x768 but I am thinking *maybe* the pixel translation or the ratio translation cause my card to overheat??

the card I have take up 2 slots, I did check the back and see if there is air flow and there is... not sure how to see if the fan is "semi" dead or not

sound like your case is getting too hot now so you may have to add more fans on those video cards or go water cool.

Well I bought my card from best buy and realized the fan was dead less than a few weeks after I got it (about two weeks) so I returned it to bestbuy.

Eh you have to set the FFXI resolution in windower to the same as your desktop resolution for fullscreen to not look like crap when using windower. It is in the .ini file if I remember correctly. I don't run FFXI fullscreen usually though anyway so I can see winamp, aim, webrowser etc without even alt-tabbing (WoW if I am feeling crazy enough to run WoW and FFXI at the same time).
