The question makes sense, unfortunately I can only answer it from a mage standpoint. I don't think changing equipment will affect your current level of enmity/hate, though. Simply because there are many BLMs out there that have all of the elemental staves and have them macro'd to change when they cast the different elemental spells.

If this enmity reset was there, a BLM could effectively nuke an entire fight without ever getting hate (Because they'd have their staff changed before the spell was finished casting).

That being said, S-E may put in some sort of special case for unequipping that particular item. But they'd probably only nerf it after they realized that NA players were doing it. As long as they think only JP players are, you're fine. lol...

That, or they'll just make it patched for only the NA version of the game. :p

still kinda confused.. so if I have the helm on, draw hate to myself, then take it off, will I, or won't I have the same amount of hate from the mob?

Hercule's Ring look very interesting for PLD... regen and refresh effect. That would be good if the latent effect comes in action when you have low hp or mp. So you could equip that ring for "emergency refresh".

i would think you could treat enmity as another stat, when you take off the equip you lose that part of the stat... so i guess you have to wear it the entire fight.... thats just my 2cents

I'm m ore inclined to think of emnity as a percent modifer.

For example.

Provoke adds 100 hate
A Warrior has +12 emnity on his gear from War AF
His provoke adds 112 hate.

a Blm deals 1000 dmg
he has - 5 emnity.
He earns hate as if he had deal 950 dmg.

Thus consider the helm adding 50% more hate to every action you take. From melee, to cures, to whatever. When you take it off you don't los ehate ( since switching gear doesnt change hate. And Any subsequent abilities you use will garner norma; hate.

hate is just a generic term used to describe how likely a mob is to attack you. Your hate is compared to everyone elses to determine the mobs target

other factors such as time distance, and if the mob is a caster, or bound also play a role, but thats the basics.

thank you for that explination. Thats why myth and I were thinking it worked.. but we figured we best check it out before making any assumptions. Now that I'm lvl 50 I'm really just starting to come into + enmity gear and how it works.
