Yeah risking your life to save someone (or a group of people) is probably one of the more heroic things someone could do. Using science to cure diseases is nice as well, but you don't necessarily risk your life in doing that usually. That and doctors/scientists are more compensated financially than a firefighter (for example) who has to risk his own life in some situations to save someone else. Helping large amounts of people through curing a disease is different in how I would perceive a hero.

Shit like playing guitar, or just making music in general isn't heroic. I wouldn't seriously consider any of my guitar influences as heroes. Neither is acting or doing martial arts. Hell martial arts movies are one of my favorite types of movies, yet I don't think Bruce Lee saved anyones life or anything that I can remember (probably hurt more people tbh). What someone does in the movies isn't heroic lol... It is their role in the real world that determines whether they are any kind of hero. If you think some movie or song saved your life, then I would have to disagree with you. At best something like that helps me get through a day in some way without being bored or whatever. That isn't heroic to me. Sorry for the ranting.

Yeah a hero for me isn't someone I necessarily try and model myself after (though I often do) but rather someone I really admire.

Doing 'heroic" jobs is a pretty sweet deal though, haha. My dad is a firefighter and works 24 hour shifts every 3 days and gets discounts literally everywhere. They're good discounts too.

OH MY! I completely forgot one of my biggest heroes, Dr. Morgus the Magnificent, one of the most influential men in science today. He discovered the speed of dark, and is the true inventor of the internet. And so much other stuff.

Hero: a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

So yeah according to this definition you would need courage and have done brave deeds lol. Really the term hero is flung around way too loosely imo. It has been broadened to fit in the opinions of people and to characterize the main character in a story. That is just comprimising the original definition of a hero in my opinion. You have to do a heroic deed to be a hero. Writing a song is not a heroic deed, no matter how epic and technical the music (innovation is not necessarily heroic). Musicians write epic songs about people who perform real heroic deeds maybe lol. Same with movies, they are stories where an actor might perform an heroic act. That is a movie and not reality. Same goes for atheletes or any other person who gets treated like a hero, when they really are not.

Synonyms to heroic: dauntless, valiant, valorous, gallant, brave, courageous

eternus your definition has the word "ability"
that kinda validates anyone who posts heroes based on their abilities

Yeah he would have ability that would counter his need for courage in the face of doing a brave deed or whatever. Noble qualities just makes for a good person. If that was so then every person you consider noble with ability is a hero. If you need courage that means you are overcoming a substantial challenge that is thought to be beyond your ability. A hero is known by their deeds (works or whatever). Their abilities make it possible to do these deeds or they just get by on pure courage and determination.
