Child pornography in the U.S. is a lot more strict then in Canada. But there's one big difference which is, Canada doesn't do nearly as much as the U.S. does to put these people in connection with "CP" in jail.

Anyways, the "America is lame" comment wasn't nearly as lame as some taking it so seriously. Not trying to attack you or anything but come on, chill out. America has its problems, Canada has its problems, and so does every single other country on the face of the earth, but despite what people think everyones problems are exactly the same everywhere on the planet as well. They are just more pronounced in different regions of the world. Think about it, everywhere has theft, rape, murder, fighting among its people, fighting with other countries, corruption in politics, unemployment, bad economy, terrorism, etc, etc, etc... Each country just has each problem more pronounced or less pronounced, and its morals and values are different, work ethics, general religious beliefs, culture, wealth and technology. All of these factor in to what the main problems for each country are and what they don't have to worry about.

My problem is not that you have a problem, its that you lump everything and everyone into "the problem". As if its my fault you can't get whatever it is you are missing in life. We all have problems and blaming the entire country as uncivil or uncouth is really distasteful. It rivals "the man is holding us down" garbage.

Your viewpoints sound like everyone is corrupt, evil, and wrong just because they are American, because America is not working for you.

I frankly don't see any point in blaming every American for what is essential the same problems faced by every group of people throughout time in some form of another. You hit problems and you face them, you don't blame everyone and put everyone down because you don't feel like they are helping your cause.

It seems every time I try to enjoy a moment of gaming or real life foolishness on this board, one of you is trying to make americans, which I am, feel bad for being american. For lack of a better term, its uncool, you can disagree with the government, but it doesn't mean you have to bash everyone down and try to make the rest of society seem like idiots so your points look more valid.

Daedalan, I generally find you an agreeable fellow and I like to believe that I understand where you are coming from. At first I was going to call you out on making generalizations about Yarr (and others, whatever-I'll just use Yarr as an example), but it then occurred to me that the accusations that you are making are not completely baseless. You have observed Yarr's posting behavior for the last year and a half or so. From what you have observed of Yarr, and his inane drivel, you were able to make judgements, reasonable or not.

Have you met Yarr in real life? No. Have you really been exposed to even a fraction of who Yarr really is? Not really. However, you have made an observation about him based on what you have perceived of Yarr. Yarr is, by the same token, making observations based on what he perceives about America. Now, let's stop and think: what types of American media would Yarr be exposed to as a Canadian? Yeah, there's a lot of fucked up shit going down here in Yankee town- but Yarr, there are on the other extreme a lot of intelligent, benevolent people here in the USA.

Wow, I guess I really have a lot to say- but I have an enormous amount of homework that posting this has distracted me from. That's my two cents anyway.

Ok, people in general complain too much, no matter where they come from. Complain about problems in America, if you lived elsewhere you'd complain about the problems there and if you moved there would be problems at that local too.

Grumbling about problems never solves anything and only makes you a bitter person, so either shut the hell up or go out and do something about whatever problems you think your country has. Just realize that solving one problem most likely leads to allowing another problem to occur.

I don't know how child porn got brought up in this thread but the people that make that crap need to have their genitals burned off and that would probably be considered too easy of a punishment in the middle east. However I understand why we don't kill first and ask questions later as they could could be innocent. On the other hand it severely pisses me off to see criminals walk free because of getting the right lawyer or having the right connections.

No matter what is done there will be problems, deal with it.

Colbert is probably one of the best satirists on television. I appreciate his rhetoric, and as a writer, respect him enormously. I do not get my news from either him or Stewart, because when I watch their shows I expect to laugh at my own crazy country, not to be informed. Speaking of which since I've been in college since early August I haven't even turned on my television as much to catch either show. Usually I just watch a few interesting clips on youtube if anything particularly interesting or funny stands out like Stewart's interview with the president of Pakistan.



I don't really know where this came from, I don't remember expressing hate for America because I love my country even in spite of the current administration. So, yes, I'm fusturated, but if I didn't think things could change I wouldn't vote and I'd probably end up abroad or in Canada after I got out of college, lol.


Generalizations make things easier. This isn't a debate forum, and I guarentee you if you hang on every single one of Yarr's words your going to get pissed off and probably banned, not because your arguing 'with valid points,' but because your arguing on a prominently internet gaming message board. You have to take shit with a spoonful of sugar sometimes Daedalan or your going to end up like Denchi.

So, again, chill out. If you really want to fight for America then start studying political theory and get out in public office. Arguing on an Internet forum where both you and Yarr have equally invalid points will just get you pissed off and nowhere else where Yarr just gets to laugh, because I doubt he cares about this as much as you do. Seriously, you may not believe me, but I'm on your side here. Not with your arguement, but I'd just rather you not be pissed off all the time. I don't think I tackled every one of your points, but I hope this helps somewhat.

Anyway if one Canadian can really hurt you, make you "feel bad for being American" by calling our country pathetic, then seriously, don't ever leave the country, or wear ear plugs and a blind fold when you do, lol, because I guarentee other people have alot worse things to say and show to you. If anything I found Yarr's post to be really interesting. I think its fun to see other perspectives on how people view America and its media (serious or not). I admit I didn't even read the article he posted, lol, just what he said about it.

Yeah I don't buy that either. Alcohol can be used as an excuse and it is lame, I regret dumb things I did while under the influence that is for sure. Drunk driving for example is something done because the person thinks they are less intoxicated than they are so they drive themselves. Molesting a child is on a different level though lol. It would take a really sick and fucked up person to molest a child regardless of how drunk they were. Unfortunately there are tons of such people in this WORLD.

Did you know the majority of internet child porn is supposedly hosted in Sweden? Apparently their laws are more lax than most countries. The 3rd biggest export from Bangkok, Thailand is child porn/prostitution. I found that out watching a TV program on the piece of shit who claimed responsibility for the Jon Benet murder. This world is fucked up, not just one individual nation. Humans are fucked up period. I do believe some people have the ability to change their ways of course. These are bad times not just in America, but abroad as well.

I watch Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert daily but that doesn't mean I get my news from them. You're absolutely fucking retarded (or haven't seen the shows) if you assume that just because they're making you laugh means nothing their saying ever makes any sense. I'm not saying that they're in it to speak the truth. But honestly, if you can't distinguish when they're making shit up and getting it from fact, you're either a) not informed well enough or b) Daedalan. I'm pretty sure O'Reilly viewers have a harder time seperating the fact from the rhetoric bullshit on his show than Stewart fans do on his show.

If you weren't so goddamn content with your own personal life to realize there's an entire country who--suprise--aren't exactly peach and creams right now. I could list the reasons, but it's pretty fucking obvious to most people, but apparently not you. Don't come in here and say anything else until you've gained the ability to judge past your own immediate experiences. "I got a 1/2 lbs stuffed burrito at Taco Bell for like, $1.29 yesterday. Every country has issues, yes, but I don't mind being American. If trying to suspend someone for posting something online is a means to think that the USA is lame, though, there's a list of other big countries out there who do a lot more censorship of stuff than the USA.

But yah... No one should get worked up over this thread. I dunno if Yarr is trolling for responses, or what, but it seemed to work. Everyone should just stick to talking about nerdy stuff, since that's the only expertise that anyone on this forum can actually bring to anything.

I highly doubt we have any poly-sci majors in the forum, but I'm sure we have plenty of people who can quote tons of stuff from Family Guy, or the Simpsons. Know your audience.

My brother is a political science major at FSU. We talk quite a bit about stuff like this. According to him and his professors, America isn't as bad off as you might think compared to a lot of nations. We do have sensationalists as journalists in our country. It fuels things like people rubbernecking in traffic to stare at an accident in order to see the carnage. That part of our society bothers me the most, people that watch Jerry Springer seriously and enjoy car accidents. Basically the same thing lol. The media in Europe did show the bad and good things in the world during the week I was there, but they were less sensationalist about how they presented the news.

Man, that accident thing pisses me off to no end. My commute in the afternoon is quite dependant on traffic. And when it's slow, I obviously expect an accident, but I get pissed off when I realize that it's not an accident in my lane, but instead it's an accident in the side of the highway going the opposite direction.
