This is pretty amazing and kind of depressing, I feel bad for women in this country who have to compare themselves to an image of perfection that isn't even real, lol.

Eh the media was just as ever present when I was in Europe a couple months ago. France is all about the fashion industry (well at least Paris was) and entirely focused on exterior beauty. Seriously it made LA look almost normal. I laughed hard at French teenagers dressing in baggy clothing like American hip-hop kids (NY Yankees cap on backwards and all). Paris is the most beautiful city I have ever seen, but pathetic as hell in how shallow it is at the same time. Germany wasn't as bad, more like the US in that regard.

I honestly hope girls any older than maybe 14 or so realize that those are computer created images.

Doesn't matter they will probably ask Daddy for breast implants as soon as they turn 18 lol. That type of thing is getting more widespread than I thought it would. I was really surprised to see women with what appeared to be fake breasts in Europe.

Wait, Europe is more shallow than us because they're trying to emulate us? Logical fallacy?

Europe isn't trying to emulate us lol. I saw some French kids in Paris like that. Those kids were also being laughed at by the other French people there at the time. Emulating Americans isn't exactly something that is totally looked upon with approval (especially in France where they hate us but buy up our music/movies like crazy). Germans seemed to have their own thing going for the most part. I said PARIS was shallow as hell, not Europe as a whole. When you walk around Paris and all you see is chicks with fake tits and posters with porn stars on them emblazoned with the word "ORGY" you tend to see the society as shallow. They concern themselves with sex and physical appearance more than the average American, that much is obvious.

They may not be voluntarily emulating American behavior, but I know culturally speaking, America has had a huge impact on the way other countries think and express themselves.

I really don't see much culture in America as being truly American at all. We are more of a hodgepodge of other cultures. The whole baggy clothing w/ sports shit is purely African-American though, and thats copied all over the world it seems lol. Same with Jazz, the only music that originates from here.. that comes from African-Americans as well. We really don't have much culture that hasn't been stolen from other countries in one way or another.

Rock and roll (if you take it as a mix of country and blues) is american.

Rock and Roll and Country are both derived from The Blues... Blues is a form of Jazz. So yeah Jazz is the only true American music form. Just because we simplify and water down music and bastardize forms, doesn't mean its an entire new form of music.

Jazz is only "American" because it finds its roots in early Afro American culture. In reality Jazz is more African than American.

Also I don't think that personal experiences should ever be held with much regard in a discussion so I'd need to see some sort of objective study before I called anyone more shallow than Americans. If anything America has pioneered the concept of extreme individualism across Europe. Europe has always been a very community oriented culture until recently. America has not. God bless "Wealth of Nations".

Read my post above I said it was African-American, it was developed into its current state over here though. Very true that it is African basically. My point is that there is very little to no pure American culture. If you want American culture you can go to a reservation and listen to the real Americans make their music. Yeah the Indians are the only actual Americans when you get down to it and their culture is the only thing that is purely American to some extent.

American culture as it stands is about adaptation and amalgamation. It's fire and lightning and thought, it's all about present and future. Shit gets mixed up here into something better than the separate parts(usually). We're a young country with young ideals.

I am stricken by my own optimism, but eh we had the last modern trailblazers, we created the light bulb (in fucking NEW JERSEY), automobile, locomotive, submarine, home computer, etc. The country itself survived a civil war, that is something.

It's all about optimism.

Actually Ford invented the assembly line for automobiles. The automobile itself was invented by Daimler (Mercedes-Benz) in Germany. The submarine was also invented by the Germans, U-boats were the first submarines (unterwasserboat).

I find it hilarious that there's a popular slogan among "Americans" which is "There is no such thing as a 'hyphenated American. You are either an American or you are not". I erred on the side of decency at first, thinking it was a message of unity. Turns out the person who had it on their car meant that racial subdivisions weren't part of America as they were from "immigrants".

Of course I'm not going to state the obvious that everyone in america came here through some form of immigration ("Irish-American" ect) except for...oops! NATIVE-Americans. Anywho needless to say the guy was an Army brat from the South who desperately wants to get to Iraq so he can "kill some sand niggers". I LOVE THIS COUNTRY. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MELTING POT. EXCEPT FOR THE PART ABOUT HOW WE ALL HATE OTHER RACES HERE

That video is scary. I mean the chick isnt really that great looking at the start. Shes not ugly, shes just normal looking. Then they do all that and the end result is a totally different person.

Its pretty bad.

So far all I have seen is talk about how this kind of media coverate is bad for girls and so on. What about guys? They see these advertisments too. They look at the girls on TV and in Magazines and they use those as referance, consciously or subconsciously. I grew up in a very very religous household.
The outlook my family's reliong had (morms) on Pronography was that is was wrong for more than just the "its naked girls". The point my parents religion really focused on was that it set a standard in a boys mind of what a woman is expected to look like. So kids who sit viewing porn and what sleezy ads are seeing women who are hired because they look better than 98% of the female population.

Theres a reason in the 60s they had advertisements selling products to help teenage girls pack on the pounds. Its because all of this is relative to the culture and media surrounding that culture.
