Its not like this on all college campuses. This is actually the only one I've seen that uses an authentication based proxy, its really annoying. My university back in the states just blocks a range of ports that use remote accessing software like remote desktop and stuff.

In the SUB at the community college I'm taking classes at there are a lot of ports blocked and so we get latencies in the 2000s on WoW.
